Other / Re: The use of a tablet ?
« on: August 10, 2013, 06:10:51 am »
Pros :
-Much more portable than a laptop (a 7-8" tablet fits in a small bag while you need a backpack for a laptop).
-More powerful and potentially cheaper than a netbook. Heck, you're comparing an Intel Atom to a Quad Core tablet with an awesome GPU. Plus, netbooks are now over €400 while in the beginning they were €200-300 (the Nexus 7 is $229 for the 16 GB model).
-Bigger screen and battery than smartphones. That's pretty much the only thing since the hardware is essentially the same.

Cons :
-If you already have a netbook/laptop, it's effectively not really necessary.
-Calculators are about 20% cooler.
-Not enough USB ports.

Ndless is not compatible with OS 3.2.x and will most likely never be. You need os 3.1.0.392 to use Ndless (since you have 3.0.x you're lucky as you'll be able to install it no problem).
I'll help you to install Nlaunch and Ndless happily, can you tell me if you have the CAS or non-CAS model ?

Welcome to Omnimaga by the way. ;)

Also instead of just installing games and leaving, we invite you to stay around and make some programs too. Programming is easy and fun, and I'm sure you can enjoy it. ;) You can go introduce yourself there.

Asm(DB02CB7FC8)
This opcode is a conditional Return. If run on an 83+BE it will return else it will continue along. More efficient than Return! If Full:Normal. ;)

I use my Cube as a relaxing element (flushing my though-flow into oblivion), amidoinrite?
That is a good argument. I also thought of another: when boredom gets you, get a Cube

But doesn't nRemote use the mysterious NavNet.jar to interface with the Nspire windows driver?
That would make it completely useless to me, as I'm using Linux.
Same here. libti* supports this functionality though as Lionel stated a few posts up. ;)

If HP engineers are smart enough (probably the case) then it'll run at 266 MHz all the time and 400 MHz will be accessible to native programmers.

Core : ARM926EJ-S
Exactly the same as the Nspire. This means that it'll be easy to port Nspire ASM programs to the Prime (only hardware differences i.e. keyboard and LCD will have to be fixed). :D And also even write a game for both platforms at the same time.

The GBA has a dedicated graphics controller which the CX doesn't, which is why there is frame skipping.
Yeah that's what I meant. ;)

Also now that I've read the test I'd like to mention that on the HP40G you could hold Alpha/Shift like the modifiers (Ctrl/Alt/Shift/Win) on your computer keyboard. I hope this is still here because it was very handy. ;)
Also no surprise that Xcas is the CAS engine in there since Bernard Parisse (Xcas's lead developper) was the one who wrote the CAS on previous HP calcs. ;)

Lack of 2D acceleration on the Nspire, and the much slower processor, will suck for emulating the Prime, though.
The Prime has 2D acceleration ? O.O And yeah that's the cpu speed difference that I was worrying about.

Yes...

But oh well, it's kind of the same struggle that with the GBA...
The Nspire CX's CPU is already 8 times faster than the GBA's (~128 MHz without Nover VS 16 MHz) and the RAM is plentiful so we have a lot of headroom to emulate the GBA. ;) With the Prime you are swapping roles. :P

(and a Prime emulator on the Nspire platform once the platform is known enough !)
Are you joking ? :P

An app store would indeed be nice, but who will do the work of setting it up, maintaining it in the long-term, and sifting through old programs for re-packaging them ?
Maybe Linux style repos ? This way devs maintain their stuff themselves and it's pretty easy to set up (you just need an HTTP server and there are plenty of free hosts). ;)

You're saying exactly the same thing as my mother. :P
Speed solving requires a lot of practice so you still have some hard work. ;) Also it's a nice trick to amaze noobs. :P And nothing prevents you from trying to get headaches and create you own algorithms. ;)

Nope, it's for Ndless. :P
It  does sound pretty awesome indeed. ;)
