Humour and Jokes / Re: What happens when you play Crysis on a pentium 2

The video is fake- read the comments (and the description) on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r6S_euDXhI

It's a shame though, because it's awesome.

Um, I mean, so... you trying to make a Python program with an Nspire-style interface for formula solving?

Well, I haven't used the site much yet since the server move, but I haven't experienced any difficulties yet.

ASM / Re: SPASM
« on: October 15, 2010, 04:48:01 pm »
This is a slightly more complicated batch file I use, that prompts you for the files to compile when it runs- and therefore can be used for all your projects.

Code: [Select]
@echo off
title SPASM - TI-83 Plus Assembler
:main
set /p source=Source file:
set /p output=Output name:
echo.
echo Assembling %source% into %output%
spasm.exe Source\%source% Output\%output%
echo.
pause
set /p again=Assemble another file [y/n]:
if %again%==y goto main

It relies on having a Spasm working directory set up like this though:

Code: [Select]
\spasm.bat
\spasm.exe
\ti83plus.inc
\Source\
\Output\

I then have a shortcut to this batch file on my desktop, which I can run without using a command line.

I play- and mod- Civ 4.

I've played Civ 5 at my friend's house but I don't own it. I think Civ 4 is better right now.

However, I felt that way about Civ 3 when Civ 4 first came out (I actually bought Civ 4 pretty soon after release, then I threw it into a closet for a year or so before playing it again, but when I did I never went back to 3). So I probably will get Civ 5 eventually.

General Calculator Help / Re: 83+ LCD locked up

I haven't tried your second suggestion, but I will tomorrow.

I didn't try the first one either. I did pull one battery and hold down DEL as I put it back in, but if you need to hold it for a dozen seconds or so I didn't hold it for long enough.

EDIT: The problem of posting while other people are posting.

I have no idea what he was doing. He said it stopped working after he changed the batteries.

I'll take the calc tomorrow and try leaving all batteries out over the weekend, and see what happens...

Hmm... what might work is remote controlling the calc from another calc?

maybe resend the OS...

I did try resending the OS, but TI Connect gave me an error in the last part of transfer... in theory that means the calc is OS-less right now. I didn't have any other time to work on it after that, and now I'm at home- without the calc (I gave it back to him because there wasn't anything I could really do...)

There is still some weird stuff though. After the OS transfer failed I could apparently turn the calc on or off (the screen contrast would get darker, and then lighter). When I tried popping batteries at that point, the garbled Y= screen would reappear for a few seconds, then go away.

Mhmm normally when distortion only occurs inside some Mirage games or TI-Boy SE, you need ALCDfix. Otherwise I am not sure ???

http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/366/36608.html

Otherwise I think Doors CS may have a LCD fix option, but if it has to be accessed from menus with the mouse cursor, then good luck selecting it with no screen x.x.

Except this is an 83+, not an 84+/83+ SE/84+ SE. ALCDFIX is to make the LCD drivers behave like they do on an 83+, isn't it?

Hmm... you mentioned OS 1.17 was unstable? Lots of 83+s come with that preinstalled, don't they? I can't check now what it was running though... also because I don't have the calc with me.

Wait...you pulled all five batteries and the error message was still there?  Is the screen burned in or something?

No, that's not what I meant. Once I put the batteries back, the garbage was still on the screen.

It's not an error message precisely- it's random gibberish in the Y= menu,

Sorry, when I wrote that post I was trying to do about four things at the same time...

General Calculator Help / 83+ LCD locked up

So I currently am trying to fix someone's broken 83+ at school.

At first I thought it was bricked- pulling all 5 batteries didn't do anything; the LCD was frozen on the Y= screen with lots of error messages.

Then I discovered (once I hooked it up to a laptop) that I could communicate to it with TI Connect. But I can't fix the LCD...

Netham45 mentioned on IRC there was a fix for this, but I don't know where it is (neither did he). Any ideas?

You should do a 68k contest, to try and bring back the 68k community.

Congratulations to the winners! And to those whose entries were featured on ticalc.org!

Any ideas as to what the next Omnimaga contest might be, if there is another one next year?

Double-post ;)

Do any of TI's calcs support C by themselves?

The 89/92+/V200 have an official SDK from TI for the making of flash apps, programmed in C.

But it's a crappy C compiler, so no one uses it anymore (unless someone needs to make a flash app). People use TIGCC/GCC4TI or maybe GTC instead.

The TI-73/83+/84+/83+SE/84+SE also have an official SDK including an emulator and a debugger.

I know that. But he asked if any calcs supported C, not if they had SDKs. It just happens that the 68k SDK has a C compiler included.

Other Calculators / Re: OS 2.21 From Calc to Computer
« on: October 10, 2010, 05:00:55 pm »
hm? The computer program would generate a .8xk, just like TI's official ones.
The theoretical on-calc program just reads the OS; it doesn't change it :P

I think you mean .8xu. .8xk is app format, .8xu is flash OS format.

What are there blue lines of death? I've heard about them, but I've never really understood what they are...

I believe it's when the LCD gets set into test mode (not the calculator, the LCD itself). The blue lines appear, but they very quickly burn out the LCD.

I wish Casio would have chosen the more standard 320x240 (QVGA) for the LCD.

Then it could be a gameboy advance emulator ;)  Then again, I would be much happier if it had an SDK, otherwise what is the point?  I want to MAKE games, not just PLAY them.  I also want to make a new oop programming language, which I started on the ti8x calcs, but I might make it for this as an alternative to ASM and casio-basic ;)

In that case, I would really need a lot of help, as I know z80 asm really well but have no idea what the microprocessor for this calc is ...

Again, I really think this site is amazing!  I can't believe how active it is for a programming forum!

Welcome to Omnimaga, by the way- I missed your earlier post.

If the chip is modern enough (read- not 30+ years old like the z80 and 68k), there would be no need for a new OOP language because C++ could be ported directly. (The Nspire, for instance, could easily support C++ once all the libraries get ported).

And the Casio Classpad's official SDK was a C++ compiler. Maybe the Prizm's will be as well...
