Miscellaneous / Re: Pet Peeves-Post Here
« on: September 03, 2010, 03:49:43 pm »
My pet-peeves are:

 - Rambunctious behavior in the dorm hallways at 11pm at night. (Seriously, 'hallway baseball'? Come on! >_< )
 - People who share media exclusively through Facebook (how the heck are us non-Facebook people supposed to see things?)
 - People who live their lives entirely how others dictate it (I have a friend who blindly follows parents' orders despite being AN ADULT)
 - People who don't RTFM
 - Putting dirty dishes in the sink despite the fact the dishwasher is empty.
 - Not washing large amounts of food waste off of plates before leaving them in the sink when the dishwasher is full.
 - People who highlight spam
 - Calling me "Tsukasa-chan", "Subaru-chan", or any other "affectionate" name.
 - People who don't give me free cake and calculators j/k :P
 - The Game
 - My roommate leaving three fans on and all of the windows open in the dorm despite it being ALREADY chilly in here and then complaining that it's uncomfortably hot
 - Assuming I'm playing a game just because I hold my calculator like a gameboy (two handed) as opposed to leaving it on the desk and typing with one hand.

This thread smells of delicious succulent bite-sized sweet crimson orbs ^_^

Having an entire game series is pretty cool.
Git'er done, and I'll be playing this stuff on my calc.
Wait... I have to put Iambian references in the SECOND GAME as well? :P

O.o

lol Iambian

I agree, though. I wonder if this will eventually be as long as the Illusiat series (which were gonna be 5 games, including Illusiat 2002, but finally ended up being 12) ;D
I really doubt the Yumé series will be much more than 5-7 games. I suppose I could always make an 8th game that serves as a prequel to the prequel but... that'd be pushing it a bit.

Wow that's a lot! They're sequel to each others, right?
* DJ Omnimaga wonders if we'll see some games à la ROL3 in the higher numbers ;D
1-3 and 5 are direct sequels, 4 is a prequel to 1, and 6-7 are tentatively time-skip sequels.
I'm planning on ramping up the graphics for the 3rd game+

You should have a conclusion game that tells the end of the story
If I only do 5 games, Nightmare Under the Nightmare will have the conclusion in it (even if it's open-ended).
If I do 6 games but not 7, the 6th will end up being Yumé no Shuukyoku which, as its name implies, will be the conclusion.
If I do all 7, again Yumé no Shuukyoku will be the conclusion game.

* HotDog is reminded of the 57 missions S.A.D. is hopefully going to have
Holy crow! O_O

Too late `-`

Also, I think I forgot to cross-post this:

The Yumé series is currently 5 planned games. They are:
 Yumé
 Yumé 2: Rika's Story
 Yumé 3: Finality
 Yumé 4: Prélude de Rêve
Yumé 5: Nightmare Under the Nightmare

I also have ideas for a possible 6th and 7th game: Tentatively, they are:
Yumé no Shinsei (The Rebirth of Yumé)
Yumé no Shuukyoku (The Dénouement of Yumé)

Depends on two things:
 1) When will Kerm okay releasing Yumé?
 2) Will I have the time to get all the events and maps coded and tested between now and then?
Optimally, yes, I could release both on September 16th.

And yes, there will be lots of exploration in Rika's Story. The Dream World is a LOT more open in the second game.

*progress bump*
Graphical map is finished. Map is a total of 49 rooms

Tile count (sprites and objects): 7 old, 51 new
Free space: 11 tiles

Note: some tiles are similar to tiles from the first game but aren't exact replicas. I count them as new (only exact replicas are old). This count does not include tile 0 (empty tile representing walkable land), the event tile (can't be old or new because it's essential), and the invisible tile (empty tile you can't walk on, used only if I need to enforce invisible barriers for some reason)

All that's left is actually coding the map, events, and dialogue. This is going to be very tedious because there are some pretty extensive cut-scenes. X_x;

Since it's pretty tedious, I'm probably going to alternate each day between coding the game and working on some bonus goodies.

For those not in the know, I'm planning on releasing Yumé and Yumé 2 simultaneously along with downloadable bonus goodies that include:
 1) a double-feature game guide that covers both games and goes in depth into the ideology of the Yumé series and reveals interesting information I've never posted about. It's spoileriffic! :D
 2) Monochromatic and special edition color versions of the Dream World maps from both games.
 3) Bonus artwork (no spoilers there ;) )
 4) Bonus wallpapers

Why am I including bonus goodies? Because I can!

I see your problem. See that blue port between what you've hooked up and that black cable? You need to plug a blue lobster in there. Also, I suggest replacing that Ethernet cable with a banana to make sure compatibility works.

News / Re: 42 ways to prevent a project from dying due to data losses

I'm guilty of (3) but I'm also backing up to my computer. So far, so good `-`
Also guilty of (10) by default and (35) because I have a laptop and I'm surge-protected when using the AC>DC adapter anyway.

A long time ago, I used to use MirageOS exclusively. Then my friend introduced DoorsCS ... 5? ... and I used both MOS and DCS. Then MOS ate ProtoType and FUBAR'd (exclusive events) so I nixed it.

New screenshot!

Shows:
 - New intro
 - Life Force icon pulses when you lose LFP and pulses constantly when it drops to 10 or lower
 - Small Life Force Orbs which recover 5 LFP
 - Large Life Force Orbs which recover 10 LFP
 - Another demonstration of being able to walk on edges as opposed to auto-move-to-next-room like in the first game
 - "Give Up" scene

As always, note that the screenshot is slower than the game because my WabbitEmu sucks. Furthermore, the game will be faster than it is now once I optimize routines.

Wow.... nice game! :D I hope to see this come out soon! ;)

Should be able to release it in little over a week! :D

On a related note, I updated the game a bit. Yumé v1.10 brings a hopeful fix for an odd xLIB graphical glitch that randomly cropped up, an event that was missing in the original version, and correctly positioned ending text (which was slightly mis-positioned in the original)

By the way, you all lost `-`

General Discussion / Re: Watcha Been Listening Too?

I pretty much always listen to video game music or J-rock/J-pop. Recently, I've been listening to:

Cruel Angel's Thesis [2009 Anniversary Remix] - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1DZHCbfWAQ
I Am Godannar! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dsBxrPbyLk
Heart to Heart - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y7N3hy--ck

I've also been listening to the Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Ha (Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22) soundtrack and the Zelda Oracle of Ages OST Remix Essence of Lime
