Miscellaneous / Re: English language reform
« on: April 26, 2010, 04:45:09 pm »
I don't think we could ever succeed in making the English language any easier, mostly because we keep mutilating it with slang, "Gangsta/Rap speak", and other things. As much as I'd love to go about adding in rules to make it much easier to learn properly, I'm afraid the language is decaying faster than we could ever fix it. Furthermore, for some reason, Americans seem to prefer the status quo above all else regardless the situation; people will always complain even if we try to improve things.

I vote that, instead, we all just speak Nethamese! j/k :P

Kidding aside, I think there's actually a silver lining to this ragged coat we call English. If we decay it enough, chances are we'll be able to understand each other no matter how "horribly" someone speaks it.

Nice redirect, DJ :)

It works!  Omnimaga is one can short of a Six Pack! Muhahahaha!
"One can short of a six pack" is idiomatic for "retarded"/"stupid". Have you turned to the dark side, Builderboy?

Humour and Jokes / Re: Funny #omnimaga quotes

All the quotes are on the first post of the first page of the thread, I believe. Although, it might be a tad outdated. Other than that, there's no real way to access the quotes without spamming !quote [number] from beginning to end in #omnimaga.

ROM Hacking and Console Homebrew / Re: My beta hack

You are being original with your ideas. I mean, spin-jumping across coins is something I've never even heard of or seen before. That's definitely original as far as I can tell.

I wasn't trying to imply you were trying to copy Kaizo or Kusotare. I was trying to get at that it seemed like you were going for a game that's purposefully too hard for the average joe (which I consider myself to be an accurate representative of in terms of playing ROM hacks).

yep your just failing epically. I have done this in 1 shot, you just need all the momentum you can get.
This quote is what mislead me to believe this. I mean, to me, it sounded like you were saying "well, it's your fault you suck too much to beat this ROM hack and I'm not gonna do anything to make it better" which is, in my opinion, a very Kaizo way of thinking when making a ROM hack.

Now that you said you weren't intending to do that, I'd like to apologize for my previous post and for being a jerk about it.

I'll be honest, here. What's the point of a SMW ROM hack that's practically impossible for people who aren't absolutely skilled or use TAS tools? Furthermore, don't we already have enough hacks like that? (Kaizo Mario, Kusotare Mario, Mario's Masochistic Mission, etc)

I'm not trying to bash you or your hack. I'm just kind of sad honestly. I like SMW ROM hacks but it just.... it makes me sad when people choose to go the Kaizo route instead of making a beautiful and amazing hack like The Elemental Star.

But eh, that's just me. I can just either not play it or go insane trying to :P

Nice graphics :)
Maybe I'm just failing epically, but I think the 5th and 6th coins are too far apart to jump between.

I can read it but it's a tad difficult to do so. Also, to me, it's kind of difficult to tell that the highlighted entry is bigger. Buuut, that's just me. If everybody else loves it, roll with it. Don't change it up just because one guy with horrible eyesight complains :P

That map is an epic win!
As for the menu, I'm not too fond of the pseudo-transparent windows. Animated text would be cool, though.

Like DJ said, the graphics are majorly glitched so you might want to fix that unless it's some sort of per-person glitch. Then I dunno. A lunarIPS issue?

Anywho, getting across the chasm is impossible to my knowledge. The ... I believe... 4th and 5th coins... are 1 space too far apart to jump between.

That sounds like a pretty decent way to go about it. I'll probably try to set up the leveling to work similar to that.
And ah, okay. I'll not have evasion/dodging at all. Or at the very least, I'll try it but have it be like a very low chance for both Nanoha and enemies so that while it does happen, it's statistically infrequent enough not to be a bother. We'll see :P

Ah, I see.
I think I'll make it so that enemies get stronger as you progress through the game so that grinding higher levels requires advancing and beating tougher enemies.

As for leveling up itself, I think I'm going to go for a fairly static growth. Since in the anime series, Nanoha is Godly powerful, leveling up will be sort of a "short and sweet" thing. You won't have to worry about grinding levels and levels and levels. Leveling up a couple of times between boss battles should keep you on fairly equal ground.

However, this is subject to change as I get more and more done so who knows? Maybe it'll get a bit more complicated :P

Also, just a question, but do you think I should have some sort of "evasion" stat and make it so Nanoha and enemies can dodge attacks? I don't really want to but if y'all think it's a good idea, I'll try to implement it.

Oh right, I'll back up the files individually to the computer then. I already had to for porting them to WabbitEmu so I may as well stick with that.

As for leveling up, I don't really have a set method for it yet. Would you mind elaborating on the Dragon Warrior/FF1 and FF6/7 and FF8 things? I'm not familiar with any of those games at all.
