THE POST 13544750 I'm not sure what Liazon is talking about, but I meant the reformatted dialogue file. You're labelling each instance of the dialogue with strings like "fenris_g_str1." It's hard to keep count of where the dialogue actually takes place, and how I should organize it in the reformatted document.
I really want to help here, but this feels a bit too technical for me. I'm sure I could figure it out if someone explained it, though. Which is why I say we should meet up on AIM, or something. It might be a little easier to discuss it one-on-one so there's no confusion.

QuoteBegin-rivereye+29 Nov, 2007, 16:0--> QUOTE (rivereye @ 29 Nov, 2007, 16:00) | actually, I was just saying it could be done, but I don't actually recommend it really. |
Err, I wasn't necessarily complaining about it being recommended in this thread -- it's just that I've heard it more than once. Whenever someone complains about compatibility issues, Vista digeratis pop in to patronize them and recommend emulating XP, or some similar nonsense. It's really tiresome how annoying Microsoft's fanbase can be. I actually (seriously) wonder if MS hires people to go around the Internet spreading propaganda and half-truths about MS products, to make it appear as if there is any valid counter-point to common criticisms. I know http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony#Fictitious_movie_reviewer... That's another subject entirely, though. It's not safe to mention MS around me.

And this is another reason why I refuse to use Vista. Whenever there's an incompatibility, someone actually recommends emulating an ENTIRE operating system just to overcome a simple flaw. Now, let's think about how irrational this actually is -- you upgrade from, say, Windows XP and decide to run a tiny program that's no more than a couple hundred kilobytes. Since it turns out to be incompatible, you have to run a bloated emulator to emulate the very operating system you "upgraded" from to begin with, and all to execute one single program.
I have a serious question, and I don't mean to derail this discussion or anything, but what is the rational behind using Vista to begin with? Prettier graphics? It certainly isn't bolstering any enhanced performance or functionality!

Having fun trying to figure out how to arrange all the data in the menus... I think the status screen will have to end up being two pages. The first would display things like name, hit points and physical status, and then the second page would display ability scores. EDIT: Link wasn't broken -- ImageShack servers just aren't very reliable, and often go down for no apparent reason.

I'm not sure about the compatibility of these programs, but there are a lot of compatibilitiy issues in general. I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't get half of them working. I haven't personally used Vista, though. Some of my clients have, and I'm only conveying some of the many problems they've had with this system. Windows wise, I haven't used anything post-2000. It's all downhill from there.
I'm not sure if Vista includes a compatability layer for older builds, like XP did. Even if it does, I'm not sure how well it works. From what I understand, half of Vista's system processes don't even work most of the time.

THE POST 13543029 Halifax, I think I understand how you've formatted the text string, but I'm afraid I'm going to mess something up if I mess around with it.
Is there any way you could get on AIM and sort of clarify this?
(or Liazon, if he knows)

Still working on those icons. EDIT: There would be little point in adding seperate icons for different accessories. There are maybe two pairs of gloves in the game, a pair of boots, several rings and then a couple of miscellaneous icons. Plus, it makes it more difficult to distinguish whether or not the item is an accessory, or something else. Better to have one icon associated with all accessories in that case.

So, I decided to touch-up the item icons a bit. Given the limited space, I wonder if these are decently legible. In order, they should appear as: - a sword - an axe - a bow - a staff - a shield - a helmet - a suit of armor - a ring - a potion - a key

Well, my offer is still up if you want to get in contact with me. Just hit me up on AIM sometime and maybe we can chat.
I can't say much else about your situation until I know what's going on. But if it's of any consolation, I generally am concerned and would like to help you sort through your situation.

THE POST 13540183 TheStorm is free to join in, of course. The more the merrier! (unless it gets overly-complex due to all the differences in code...)

Well, I sent him a PM letting him know he can get in touch with me if he wants someone to talk to. Beyond that, I have no idea how to contact him. I'm glad a couple of other members managed, though. Maybe you guys can help him sort things out. Let's hope for the best.
Edit(Netham45): Acknowledged your request, and edited mine.

He seemed fairly calm the last time I heard from him. (just earlier today -- a few hours ago)
I want to say "don't jump to conclusions," but I don't know anything about the situation. Apparently, Weregoose does? It might be kind of weird to have the police show up at his door if nothing were seriously wrong.
Like Spellshaper said, some people are more sensitive about things than others. I know I tend to go on a whole "verging personal Nihilism" trip any time something tends to go wrong, and it gives other people the wrong impression about how serious it is. Could this be similarly exaggerated?

I was talking to him in PM earlier about a problem with the site, and he mentioned something about not coming back. (though he didn't elaborate on why)
Is he going through some personal issues at the moment? I'm afraid I don't know him personally.
Well, I hope he's okay and the situation is just being exaggerated, or something. Maybe he's just dealing with a stressful situation right now and needs some time off.
