The Axe Parser Project / Re: Bug Reports
« on: April 28, 2011, 04:13:53 pm »
I'm with Builderboy on this one.  I can't replicate the error.  Just to be clear, what you're describing is that the amount of RAM displayed in the memory management menu before compiling is larger than after compiling when you have an error and scroll to it correct?  To help me debug this, I need more information about how you got there:

* What shell were you compiling for?
* By how much did the memory shrink?
* How large is the source code?
* Approximately how far down the program was the error located?

When it happened to me, I was compiling for no shell, and it filled up pretty much the entire calc's ram. I couldn't archive/unarchive anything. Before compiling I had around 20kb. The source code was about 2k. I don't remember how far down the program the error was located, sorry... (happened a while ago for me)

Portal X / Re: Portal X

Awesome, well it seems to work really well! I'm working on writing a portal game for Android, which will allow for some heavier calculations without too big of a slow down, but I'm still trying to keep it light, so I'm just looking for good ways to ease up on the large calculations.

Well, I'm certainly glad to hear it's not dead. :) The engine is fantastic. How are you doing your intersection calculations for when you shoot a portal? I mean, it's tile-based so wouldn't you have to iterate through all 4 walls of each tile until you found the nearest intersecting wall? I'd think that would be pretty slow to calculate, but it seems you possibly found a better way to do it?

It's not just 0.5.1

I got the same issue with 0.5.0

I know it is a memory leak because I see almost all my RAM gone and there's not a data structure I can delete that's chewing it up. I have to do a RAM clear. And I'm not sure if it happens all the time. And compiling an error free program doesn't fix it.
This happened to me too, but I don't remember what caused it...

I don't completely understand phenomist's explanation...In fact, I don't understand it at all. Can someone explain that explanation? xD

Looks good, but you might want to scale some of those... loading times can get obnoxious sometimes.

This is really incredible. That grayscale sprite sheet is absolutely fantastic! I really hope those sprites are put to some use at some point! It would be such a shame to see all that effort wasted. :(

I'm sorry but this thread really makes me rage. Actually, I take it back. I'm not sorry. This thread really makes me rage.

News / Re: The Omnimaga CoT team still produces music!

I really should be updating the flash based one more as it works well and has a shuffle feature as well...only issue is

http://omnimaga.org/radio/c.txt thats the config file looks like fun huh :P
If you can get it to read from one directory and not require the config file for urls I could help you with a little script that should let you symlink all the files to a directory for you :)

Unfortunately, I don't think Flash has that capability, at least not on its own. You'd have to implement a PHP script to retrieve the files or something.

Just to clarify, you're looking for actual fully-functional subprograms, not just small routines, right?

Miscellaneous / My essay for...a dance competition?
« on: April 25, 2011, 08:20:50 pm »
As part of an entry in a dance competition I have to write an essay. The prompt was "Describe the emotion you feel when you take the stage at competition." Here's my entry:

State of Mind

I am a performer. You are a performer. Every one of us is a performer. Every smile, every tear, every interaction, and every conversation is a performance. Likewise, every performance is a conversation. When I get on the stage, I become a vessel for energy and expression. It is my duty to give that to my audience and to make them feel what I feel. But that still brings us down to a final question: what do I feel? What is the emotion, the expression, the power that I cannot help but pass on to my audience?

The answer to the question is both surprisingly simple, and unimaginably complex. As I wait to enter the stage I feel relaxed and focused. As I walk onto the stage I feel the surge of energy beginning to flow through me, radiating outward through my limbs all the way to the tips of my fingers and toes. But the instant the music starts is when everything really happens. It took me a while to figure out what goes on inside my head when I dance, but I finally realized that it’s not an overwhelming rush of emotion, but rather an overwhelming rush of music. Even when there is no music, I find my own music either in my mind or in my surroundings. The music engulfs me and sends its energy pulsing through my body. It was only after I understood the source of my energy that I also realized that the music is not just a background track for the choreography. In fact, the complete opposite is true: the choreography is a physical representation of the energy that flows from the music. Thus, I, the dancer, am the only possible means of communication between that choreography and the audience.

You see, when I get up on stage, I don’t perform for my audience. I communicate with them. The word “perform” implies that I consider myself to be the main focus of my actions, which is simply not true; it’s all about the music. The music is what I have to communicate, and therefore the music is my emotion. Emotion (n.): a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationship with others.

TI Z80 / Re: Axe Lemmings
« on: April 25, 2011, 04:37:55 pm »
Well, I'm almost definitely going to use Grayscale sprites for this. Most likely I'll use the sprites from the original Lemmings game (or as similar as possible) and just make them 4 level grayscale.

As for the complexity, I think it'll be fairly difficult, though the hardest part will almost definitely be creating a smooth control scheme.

But before I start on this, I need to finish Mummy. It's almost done anyway...I just haven't been working on it -.-
