Darn it. I think it's a bit high to compete with the CX (which MSRP's at $129, I think).
Eh... It's much higher here...
So who knows how the price can be outside of Europe for the Prime if they really want to compete hard.

But doesn't nRemote use the mysterious NavNet.jar to interface with the Nspire windows driver?
That would make it completely useless to me, as I'm using Linux.

Same here. libti* supports this functionality though as Lionel stated a few posts up. ;)

Yes sure, but at least it will function directly and more quickly (no install time, I mean) for those on windows (and mac) with TINC[L]S installed, with no need of filter driver and such because of that crappy windows roadblock...
For Linux obviously libti* is the choice as it's easy to use there (and, well, is the only one).
Remember the main point here, whatever the choice : it has to be extremely simple for the user (no installation would be great)

And, also, let's not forget that if such App-Store project comes to life, it'll have to be for all .tns of course (there are tons of TI activities that could use this, but also Lua scripts, and duh, the ndless programs (especially those with external resources), so if it ever gets popular (who knows :P), the majority of users will be PC, then Mac, then Linux (and the order of file type will be TI BASIC things, then the Lua stuff, then the ndless stuff...)

Also, it'd be good to have such a program linked to the major community repos (ticalc, omni, tiplanet, cemetech...)

Anyway, interesting ideas :)

Also : nice gif compu :)

Hmm sorry :x The price is set to be about 155 $/€

The [great, in my option] idea of an Nspire App-Store has been in mind of several people for quite some time, yet nothing has been done on that path :P
It could be coupled with some remote control software to automatically extract/isntall/launch whatever. nRemote for example can do that quite easily with its "script" support.

The GBA has a dedicated graphics controller which the CX doesn't, which is why there is frame skipping.

Prime emulation is possible - it will just be painfully slow, probably.
(Oh and BTW, the CPU in the prime might not be running at 400 MHz all the time, but at 266 MHz.)

News / HP Prime Hardware Details (of a DVT Prototype)
« on: August 09, 2013, 08:14:52 am »
Hi everyone,

Unlike the fx-CP400 which gave us a hard time (easy when you know the trick... ;) ), the HP Prime opens quite "easily" and reveals us its hardware:

We notice the references which were already at the back of our prototype: EA656MB for the motherboard and EA656KB for the keyboard and power board.

They include:
  • Touch Color Display 3.5" diagonal with a resolution of 320x240px
  • Processor (U101): Samsung S3C2416XH-40 - ARM9 clocked at 400 MHz maximum.
  • RAM Memory (U200): Hynix H5MS2562NFR - 32 MB
  • Flash Memory (U201): Samsung K9F2G08U0C-SCB0 - 256 MB
  • Battery: Li-Ion 3.7V, 1500 mAh (5.55Wh)
In short, a fairly standard and simple architecture around three main distinct chips: RAM/ROM CPU.

Let’s now look at the details ;)

Processor :
  • Architecture : ARM (ARM9 ; 32 bit)
  • Core : ARM926EJ-S
  • Manufacturer  : Samsung
  • Reference : S3C2416
  • Specs : 16KB I-cache; 16KB D-cache/MMU
  • Frequency : 2 Modes : 266 MHz and 400 MHz
  • Note : Features 2D Acceleration
  • Official "Product Brief" (PDF)
RAM Memory :
  • Type : DDR SDRAM
  • Manufacturer  : Hynix
  • Reference : H5MS2562NFR E3M
  • Capacity : 32 MB (256Mb (x16 device) = 4M x 4Bank x 16 I/O)
  • Manufacturer  Page officielle
  • Datasheet (Closest JFR model)
Flash Memory :
  • Type : Flash NAND
  • Manufacturer  : Samsung
  • Reference : K9F2G08U0C SCB0
  • Capacity : 256 MB (2 Gb)
  • Datasheet
Screen
  • Type : TFT
  • Manufacturer  : ?
  • Reference : ?
  • Dimensions : 3.5" (8,9 cm)
  • Resolution : 320×240 px
  • Pixel density : 114 ppi
  • Color : Yes , 16-bit;
  • Other : Capacitive multi-touch layer
Battery :
  • Type : Rechargeable Battery
  • Technology: Lithium-Ion
  • Manufacturer : WiseWod Tehnology Co.
  • Reference : 484461AR
  • IEC 61960 Number : 1ICP6/51/63
  • Dimensions : 4.8 * 43.8 * 61 mm
  • Nominal voltage  : 3.7 V
  • Max. capacity : 1500 mAh
  • Energy: 5.55 Wh
  • Impedance : <= 60 m?

In short, only documented and standard chips instead of proprietary ones or hidden in an ASIC, which is a nice change from the TI-Nspire or even more from the fx-CP400 :)

This calculator is positioning itself as a potential competitor to the TI-Nspire CX, as we wrote in our hands-on review (Omni topic) and the hardware confirms this idea, despite a slight weakness in the RAM amount.
In fact, some people already think of a Prime emulator on the Nspire and a Nspire one on the Prime, given the similar architecture! (But first, the machine will have to be open to native development ;) )

You can also compare the technical specs of the CX and the Prime with our comparator :

    See you later :)

    Yes...

But oh well, it's kind of the same struggle that with the GBA...

    Why would I be ? :)

It'd be in fact simpler this way, since there is twice the RAM on the CX ;)

Also, I'm pretty sure once all that is et up, an Nspire emulator will see the light ;)

(and a Prime emulator on the Nspire platform once the platform is known enough !)

    Alright, basic stuff set up.
HP Prime skeleton page also made : http://tiplanet.org/hpwiki/index.php?title=HP_Prime

    Go ahead and edit :)
(Section by section, to avoid conflicts ;) )

Anyway, there you go : http://tiplanet.org/hpwiki/index.php?title=HP_Prime

A new HP Wiki for everyone to use. (also, if you have an other name for the wiki, please tell)
It's powered by the (then) latest MediaWiki, and hosted on TI-Planet's [powerful :P] server ;)
(And no, there's no link with TI-Planet, we just offer the hosting :D)

I'm still in the process of setting it up correctly (extensions, themes etc.), but it's fully working already.

Come contribute in a wiki style ;)

If the site gets quite popular, a domain name may be bought :)

Also, when it's done being setup... it might be good to actually announce this as a news, if we want to make it "big".

Edit : Also, yep, I'll enable categorizing/folders, so that we can have a "sub-wiki"-ish for the Prime itself

A Wiki is a good idea.

However a profesionnal-class one (mediawiki indeed) is better than a[n other] free one like this ^ .

Just wait a few minutes ;)

Lua / Re: documentation on ETK API?
    « on: August 08, 2013, 07:21:35 am »
Hmm, on the demo code, the Main screen is defined as : Main = WScreen(), and usual init stuff.

You can see the code directly here :
    http://pastebin.com/1Yv7EvC9

Starting code really starts at line ~ 1760.

The problem you describe with things working on the computer software but not on the handheld seems weird though :o
What OS versions are you using ?
Have you checked that all the needed platform.window:invalidate() are here, just in case ?

I would like to see if the emulator runs at close to the same speed as the calc or as fast as the computer it is on? Could someone test that with the program mentioned in the article to see how the time comparison fares?
It looks like the computer software is like 8-10 times faster for the Advanced Graphing plots (the demo gallery thing)

The software is not an emulator, it runs natively the same codebase, just compiled for the PC (same as the Nspire, but way less extended to a real software POV)

Source : a dev (Tim wessman) on the HP Museum forums, when I actually asked about the software :P

The version hosted on TI-Planet is the one supposed to be shipped with th calc, so if you install it and it works directly for free... yep :)

I can'treally tell myself since I've been doing upgrades over upgrades... I'm not sure if the whole install process is the same, so...
