Miscellaneous / Re: So how did you get into calc programming?
« on: June 15, 2014, 11:03:04 am »
Note that I didn't start calc programming until I was 14-15ish. Also at first I only played games on my calc. Wolf3D84 is amazing.

Thought everyone would like a screenshot.

I like the game, it's executed very well especially for a first game. It lacks a bit of a challenge, though. I would recommend that the chance of bombs/snowflakes/stars dropping is higher when you get closer to your X-position. That way you have to keep moving.

That looks like a nice webpage. One small remark, when a user browses your site and clicks the TI-Basic commands page, he is presented with an almost-empty page. You should add an index of sections on that page to 1)make it less empty 2) make the site easier to navigate.

Looks nice. My suggestion: Make the dots a bit more visible, and give them mouseover text so you can see what event you're going to look at. Right now it's just semi-blind clicking.
Edit: also make the contrast between the color per year a bit stronger.

Miscellaneous / Re: So how did you get into calc programming?

I've always been interested in programming. I think I started using vbscript in MS office, had a lot of fun pranking my parents with false error messages ;D After that I dabbled in Scratch, javascript, c# and python, but I could never really get a grasp of how it worked (remember I was about 11 at the time). Then when I was 14, a classmate of mine got his brother's 84+, and because his brother was also a calc geek my classmate knew you could play games and program on the calc. Next year everyone in class had to get a 8[3/4](+), so obviously I started messing around with TI-Basic (which was, according to the other classmate "very much alike javascript" o.o). Because I was really interested to learn everything about my newly-acquired 84+, I went to look on the internet for tutorials. I passed over Omni a few times but ignored it. Then I found ticalc.org with quite a few getting started in Basic tutorials, and so I got into calc programming. I also discovered that there was another guy at school who also programmed his calc, so I was with him a lot. He told me about Axe and Omnimaga. Thanks for that LordConiupiter :D
So now you know how I ended up programming my calc and how I found Omni.
