Btw, if aeTIos was to never do magic animations (since he usually disappears every 6 month or so for a long while from the community x.x), what happens to the game if everything else is completed? Would you use placeholders (such as the Illusiat 2004 magic sprites from the title screen) or would the game be delayed until next year or so?
Not entirely true there lol. I usually disappear for a few weeks every summer due to me going on vacation. And I will finish the animations lol :P

Miscellaneous / Re: WW3: is it really going to happen?
« on: May 02, 2014, 07:48:29 am »
I dunno why, but over the last weeks I caught myself thinking about a possible war more and more often. I've been watching the increasing demilitarization of NL and other EU countries and I must conclude that the situation is much like at the start of WW2.  We (that is, NL) have nothing more than a symbolic army. At the end of the cold war(1991), we had over 900 leopard tanks. Now we have none. I'm not afraid for a war, but things like that bother me quite a lot. If things go haywire, chances are I'll have to join the army (conscription shtuff)
I found myself mentally preparing for such a thing.
Idk felt like sharing.

I have to report a bug/glitch on the server: when someone rejoins shortly after disconnecting for whatever reason, the server crashes. It just happened with Streetwalrus.

No that would not work. I checked and the profiles are not compatible. Everyone would lose their xp and inventory.
We all lost our inventories once already, when you switched to offline mode, so I'm sure it wouldn't be that bad :P

Although, my inventory consists of a pickaxe and nothing else, at this point, so I wouldn't have that much to lose...
I, however, have about 10 diamonds in my inventory, and I would prefer not to lose those.

I made a very long road today. Used about 1400 cobblestone, most of them in slab form. That means I have used almost 2800 blocks O.o

Miscellaneous / Re: How many 8x8 sprites are possible?
« on: April 28, 2014, 07:34:14 pm »
Actually it's 8 bytes per sprite, not two.

We wouldn't need to store them all. We could generate them on the fly extremely easily, since it's just a 64-bit number. Pass the 64 bit number and a small javascript program could generate it using a small canvas element.
Yes, I know you don't have to store them all. But that's what OP is implying when he says "generates all of them". And I wanted to do some big number crushing :P

Also could Omnimaga write a program that will make all of them, index them and have the hex code foreach? Obviously it would be huge, duh. But that would be cool to be the only site in the world with all 18,7446,44,073,709,551,615 monochrome 8x8 sprites possible.
Are you CRAZY? I asked wolframalpha. You need 37.49 exabytes of data to store those images for 18 quintillion 744 quadrillion 644 trillion 73 billion 709 million 551 thousand 615 8-byte sprites. And that's the smallest part. You need 16 characters for every hex. In ASCII, every character is 1 byte. So that brings the total size per sprite to 24 bytes.
24 bytes * 18,7446,44,073,709,551,615 = 449.9 exabytes.

An exabyte, FYI, is 10 000 000 terabytes.
So unless you want to host the list, have the money, space, and power supply,
No.

EDIT: Because I feel like doing a What-If? XKCD style thing here, I'll put some more things here.

Assuming that Randall's approximation of Google's storage capacity (what-if #63) which he gauges at about 15 exabytes is correct, this means you'll need almost 30 and a half Googles to store all this information. If you wanted to put all the information on 1TB hard drive disks (measuring 2x18x10 cm, totally guesstimated that), you would need 449900000 drives. That would take up a volume of 161964m^3, or 43 olympic swimming pools (size: 50mx25mx3m)

I could go on, this is fun, but that's it. :P

I use wireless internet via a repeater that's in the wrong corner of the house. Occasionally I have an okay signal tho. (sometimes I can even play BF3 without having 1500 ping all the time)

There's a really old topic floating around, I remember posting in it, when munchor was still called ScoutDavid (a looooooong time ago, I can assure you)
Anyways my name is a mash-up of aetos the Greek word for eagle and TI, which is pretty self explanatory.
Back in the time when i registered I used to play these Farmville like click click build and wait online games, one of them was Icaria iirc. That game had a Greek setting so I looked up a random 'cool' word in a dutch-greek dictionary and found that.
I should write a story about the 4 years I've been hanging around here. I've seen quite a few things already.
:p
