I'm in central(-ish) Maryland. The first part of the storm knocked out power for 3 hours. Then power came back up and stayed on, with of course some flickering here and there. After that mess, it's a lot colder - about 40 or so degrees, with even a chance of snow! Edit: And of course, school's out Monday and Tuesday, hoping for Wednesday as well.

Cheating I googled, and apparently cheating on an SAT doesn’t do much more than cancel your scores, but if you cheat in school, you will get a zero on the test and disciplinary punishment. If you cheat in college, you get expelled, and probably won’t be able to get into much more than a community college, and the fact that you cheated might show up on your resume forever.
It's very likely that colleges will see that cheating and reject you, so it's still pretty bad. If you're building a calculator for FOSS(+HW) reasons, I'm very happy to support this project. With enough time and inspiration, you can probably build a better calc than I (OTCalc) or any others have tried. But DON'T build it for cheating. Not worth it.
What happened to OTCalc?
Lack of time and skills led me to finally close development of OTCalc. It was great while it lasted, though. Right now, I'm taking an electronics course so that if I ever conjure up motivation for OTCalc, I'd have the skills to make it.

http://www.kickstarter.com/
KickStarter is generally for 70%+ projects. In fact, rules forbid you from posting a project that is not "solid" yet - only pictures of prototypes are allowed, not mockups or renderings. You will not get a single supporter until you have a working product that just needs polishing. If you really need money, I suggest Indiegogo for raising money. A few comments about this project: 1) CheatingI'm not going to try to be nice here - cheating on the SAT (or attempting to) is stupid. Really, really, stupid. You're gaining an unfair advantage against me and others who have taken the SAT fairly. If you got a higher score than me from cheating, I or some other person might not get into my/his/her favorite college. Furthermore, cheating makes no sense. If you don't know it, you don't know it. Once you get into college, if you've cheated, you will almost immediately fail high level classes. As for making a calculator, do you really think CollegeBoard/ACT is stupid? They manually approve calculators each year, and I don't think they will smile when they see that you've tried to sneak in a QWERTY keyboard. Or any of your "clever" ideas to work around their regulations. Trust me, cheating is NOT worth it. If your only goal is to make a calculator to cheat with, I don't even want to see you in the SAT testing site. Colleges have ZERO tolerance for cheating in any way, shape, or form. If you cheat, and you're lucky, you can get a hand slap. Most of the time, it results in expulsion. If you're building a calculator for FOSS(+HW) reasons, I'm very happy to support this project. With enough time and inspiration, you can probably build a better calc than I (OTCalc) or any others have tried. But DON'T build it for cheating. Not worth it. 2) AndroidYou're just begging for the SAT guys to ban your calculator, eh? Android is a smartphone OS - it does not belong inside a calculator. It needs a touchscreen for it to be really useful, and touchscreens are almost certainly banned by testing organizations. Furthermore, Android isn't exactly a platform for that kind of development. You shouldn't be sending email, be on Facebook, etc. using your calculator (or at least, not in such an obvious way). My suggestion: go with just simple ol' Linux. The Angstrom Distro is a very nice platform to start with. If you want fancy animated effects, SDL (or Clutter) can be installed and used. GUI? Qt or GTK. CAS engine? Too many to count. You have an infinite range of options, but definitely start with something simple. 3) FeasibilityWhat are you prototyping on? What's your target hardware? (CPU? RAM?) What's your target price? Who's your target audience? Those are very big questions that I haven't heard you answer yet. Hardware always comes before software. If you don't develop the hardware, the only places the software will run on are your computer, or your development board.

No problem! I felt that activity would be lost rather quickly if OmnomIRC was not reinstated. Since I had a VPS available (backup2/MC), I decided to try and run it. With a few setting changes, hopefully it won't crash my server... EDIT: You guys should totally check out Deep Thought's web IRC! This is also a great solution if the server goes down!

Gah, I was hoping that my involvement would be a mystery Indeed, I'm the hoster of OmnomIRC. I did a few optimizations (less memory usage for MySQL, using NGINX + PHP5-FPM for web interface, and probably some others). As for resources... I probably haven't seen the worst of running it yet. Just in case, I'm limiting CPU usage to 1 core (out of 4) so my VPS provider doesn't get (too) upset. I have a server status page up for those who are interested: http://mc.withg.org/status/Basically, you'll know if OmnomIRC is OMNOMING if the server load >= 1

Ok good to hear. Limiting CPU usage (and RAM) would be a better idea I think.
I'm now enforcing CPU usage with CPULimit, which is a pretty safe tool. To be honest, I don't think CPUHero is *that* bad. It gives the process a chance for "redemption" (less than 80% CPU usage). See below: [Mon Oct 22 15:26:57 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] [Redemption] Society is rather peaceful... there are no trouble PIDs to redeem! [Mon Oct 22 16:18:07 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] 6258 (php5-fpm) gets a PID_TROUBLE score! Process 6258's CPU usage was over 80! (CPU usage: 88) [Mon Oct 22 16:18:07 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] Commandline for 6258: [Mon Oct 22 16:18:07 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] User: www-data [Mon Oct 22 16:18:08 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] 6258 (php5-fpm) now has a PID_TROUBLE score of 1, out of 3. [Mon Oct 22 16:18:13 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] [Redemption] 6258 is on its way to redemption! [Mon Oct 22 16:18:13 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] [Redemption] 6258 now has a PID_REDEMPTION score of 1, out of 3. [Mon Oct 22 16:18:19 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] [Redemption] 6258 now has a PID_REDEMPTION score of 2, out of 3. [Mon Oct 22 16:18:24 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] [Redemption] 6258 now has a PID_REDEMPTION score of 3, out of 3. [Mon Oct 22 16:18:30 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] [Redemption] 6258 now has a PID_REDEMPTION score of 4, out of 3. [Mon Oct 22 16:18:36 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] [Redemption] Probation is over! 6258 now has a PID_REDEMPTION score of 4/3 - it's now free! [Mon Oct 22 16:18:41 EDT 2012] [CPUHero] [Redemption] Society is rather peaceful... there are no trouble PIDs to redeem! (Yes, I was bored when writing this - you have to make the output somewhat interesting, right? ) Therefore, if there's any CPU usage spikes, no killing will occur. (Then again, if OmnomIRC gets used constantly, then that's another story...) You can watch it live here: http://withg.org/albert/cpuhero/

Since OmnomIRC has troubles with auto-restarting/connect, wouldn't it be a bad idea to kill it when it takes too much resources?
I will not deploy CPUHero on the server that runs OmnomIRC until I implement non-killing for limiting CPU usage.

I haven't fixed the issue with my bot, but I've done two things to mitigate this issue: 1) I wrote a little daemon called CPUHero that kills any processes that eat up lots of CPU. When the bot dies, it (usually) gobbles CPU because it's stuck in a loop. (I'd appreciate any help with that!) Therefore, it should automatically get killed. 2) Sometimes, it doesn't trigger CPU usage. I wrote a quick web interface (inside CPUHero's interface) so that you can restart the bot! For security reasons, 3 people must click the button within 5 minutes to trigger a restart. (Don't abuse it!) Go here for the button: http://withg.org/albert/cpuhero/Note that this ONLY applies to my alternate New bot. I have zero control over Netham45's "New" IRC bot. For convenience, I've also placed the link in my sig for easier clicking. Again, it's: http://withg.org/albert/cpuhero/

I should also note that Hexchat may not be available on Linux quite yet; however, XChat (which Hexchat is based off of, and is featured in the screenshots) is the one that you should use in place of Hexchat.

Edited post to fix formatting (per seana11's request). Please use this guide, since OmnomIRC will be down for a looooong time!
Juju: I think we should sticky/news this post, seeing that OmnomIRC isn't going to be online anytime soon.

Will there be an option to require people's own ROM's and preferably not host any copy, even temporary, on the server?
ROMs are ALWAYS stored on the user's computer via HTML5 LocalStorage (or whatever it's called), just like jusTIfied. The only things that may ever get uploaded are backups of calculator state, and programs/apps the person is developing.

And I didn't know about WebWabbitemu. Is there a topic about this?
It's a secret and non-public project, so nope. It's being worked on from time to time - it so far can run a calculator ROM, but of course we're planning for more features in the future

We should put an official page somewhere, and I should get some sort of system in place where community members can submit their code to be packaged, or requests for it. Something like that. I would love to do this all on a server and have it handle building, but I don't have access to an arch server, just ubuntu/debian. Right now the repo is build on my laptop and then uploaded to both mirrors.
I was actually thinking about writing a APT manager daemon for my server (withgusto). There's code written but I got distracted from it. (Hosting an APT repo is pretty easy, but you have to manually accept incoming packages. The daemon is designed to do it automatically, with security, of course.)

A project needs help again! This time, however, they need assistance - that is, they're not being given away, but they would appreciate some much needed work! (Note the topic title change!) AtomBot: this is a little, speedy IRC bot I wrote in Python! I need some help with fixing a few bugs, tightening up code, and adding a few features! Your work WILL help Omnimaga, since this bot's core is part of the "New" post notification bot for Omnimaga! You should have a good knowledge of Python and IRC protocol. (Python, moderate progress, https://code.google.com/p/atombot/) (By the way, this topic is for everyone - if you need to give away a project, or some assistance, feel free to post here!)

A couple of things: Post Notifier IRC Bot: I really would like someone with experience in Python and IRC protocol to help me with this! The only reason that it disconnects is due to PING timeouts... and not being able to recognize it. Otherwise, it works pretty well! (The other thing I would like to implement is to store the last post timestamp, and display all the posts after it in case of a bot restart so no new posts are missed.) OmnomIRC: I have a server that can host the bot. (mc.withg.org) I can probably do this on a temporary basis, but I would appreciate donations. (There's a Minecraft server on that too ) TI-8x emulator: If you talk to Buckeye/Deep Thought, there's WebWabbitemu that might be interesting to use.
