No screenies? ...actually, I think I've played this game. Is it on TI-Calc?

There's a gigantic amount of elements you can add to any given game. Powerups like speed up, slow down, fast enemies, slow enemies, health, ammo for different kinds of guns, puzzles to solve (obviously at reflex speed), etc. You can add smooth scrolling from side to side, and with that larger screen you can have things like rope elements, platforms, patrolling enemies, springs that make you go faster for a short period of time. You can add really cool graphical effects, like uber l33t character animations, like having your main character change shape every so often or do flips, or shrink or grow based on powerups or something, you can add a grayscale background, an awesome menu screen (look at leafiness0's games (or Spacky 2, he made the screen for that) for amazing menu screens, like Graviter or Tag have really nice screens). There is SO MUCH you can add to any game. The sky truly is the limit. Once you realize that when you are the game creator, you truly have all power, you can do anything.
Good luck, and have fun! 694

I was thinking about just using the fstream C++ library to output to files. The program would load up a .8xv file and output a .txt file.

I like to see updates in two forms, in the form of editing the first post, and also in the form of new posts. That way we can see both^

in all honesty, it doesn't have to be a custom input function, you could use the built in axe one. All you need is a function that allows the user to type in the name of the appvar they want to create, save it to a string with the necessary one-byte prefix (decimal 21 or hexadecimal 15), and call the GetCalc function.

TI Z80 / Re: PaintPad - On-Calc Paint and Text Editing« on: September 25, 2011, 12:45:47 pm »have you thought about making it to where you export it to computer and you can just rename the file to txt and actually see what you wrote? Yeah, that was actually my original inspiration for the text editor. I'll eventually write a c++ program that converts the appvars into computer readable txt files. Darn. I was going to make this as well, but you beat me to posting about it. If you want any help with stuff, I'm really good at menus (I think I can do a slide-down menu pretty easily), and I can write custom Axioms. Just ask. I'll be sure to ask. Thanks! 700

Epic. Absolutely Epic.
Dynamic Appvar names shouldn't be hard. All you need is a custom input function (unless the newer Axe Input thingy is better. The one I used in .5.3 kinda sucked.) 702

Hey, this is fantastic. I tried to make a couple levels, but there's two things: I don't like how I have to go into three different programs to edit levels, you might want to make a menu screen interface type deal, really simple, saying like, do you want to edit the shimmery stuff, the mines, or the land and other stuff? It would be really easy. Also, in the mines editor, I either placed all the mines in the top left corner, or only placed like two or three but couldn't delete them properly. You might want to make it so you can't have two mines in the exact same space.

That menu screen looks fantastic! Great job. I hope the graphics for the rest of the game are this great.
