The way the source code is commented isn't great (in fact, i'm having a hard time remembering if I put ANY comments in the source...) but it's not complicated.

TI Z80 / To All Budding Axe Programmers
« on: August 19, 2011, 06:45:38 pm »
So, I was digging around my old files. And I found the very first playable game I made in Axe Parser! It's called Rockslide, and, um, there's a bunch of falling rocks you have to avoid. And if they hit you, you get smashed!

Here it is:

The reason I'm posting this, accompanied by it's source code, is for all those Axe beginners who really want to, but don't know how, to get started programming in Axe. It's kind of simple, but it's just about all I knew before coding Spacky Emprise, and then Spacky 2, and now Base 671 (which is actually pretty good (albeit not complete yet). 4th time's the charm, eh?). This is how I got started, and anyone who wants to get going with Axe might be interested in checking out the source code.

EDIT: whoops, forgot to attach the files

A possible reason for a decrease in activity may be due to the fact that there's not an active Axe competition...I dunno, I just feel like Axe is the language that really gets people posting and crap like that.

I am working! I am too busy coding calc crap to post loads around here, but I still do whenever I can.

Expect something epicly epic in the next...hm...two weeks, tops. :)

The number one best way to really get going is to make something. When I first started out making Spacky Emprise, I knew pretty much nothing but the Axe syntax. I had absolutely no idea how to make a platformer game. But I made one. I wasn't that good, but I was able to improve it and use the techniques/code from Spacky Emrpise to make Spacky 2, which was still not great but loads better than Spacky Emprise. And now everything I learned from making those two games has gone into making better games, and I seriously would have quit progress on my current project a long time ago, out of frustration and not knowing how to do stuff, if I had not really tried to make a game.

So there you go. DO NOT be afraid of your first 'real' game sucking! It certainly didn't stop me lol :)

Maybe it was compiled for a shell ???
Maybe buttsfredkin had to use CrabCake and needed to compile for a shell. I don't know.

I did indeed. It should run successfully using Doors CS 7.
