In a previous news, you could watch the TI-Nspire CAS+ P1-EVT2 from february 2006, which was the oldest Nspire prototype known to the Internet at that time, booting. This prototype needed allmost 1min30s to be usable, as the whole OS was installed on each boot. Today, let's focus on the TI-Phoenix 1 P1-EVT1 from january 2006. As revealed in my original news topic, it does boot in 2 steps like more recent Nspire, but... - there is no boot screen, just a text console - the Boot1 is not from TI: it's the U-Boot 1.1.2 under GPL - the Boot2 does reinstall the whole OS on each boot - the OS let you use the DataLight shell on RS232 Watch the TI-Phoenix 1 booting for the 1st time in your life today! Only something like 30secs and you can use it. Much better than the P1-EVT2 which allmost needed 1min30s. And moreover, it doesn't crash when you try to turn it off: it just stays on! Latest Ndless 3.1 beta (r530) adds support for file associations based on file extensions. Thanks to a little text config file (ndless_cfg.tns), you can tell Ndless to automatically look for a "mviewer.tns" file and launch it each time you try to open a ".png.tns" or ".bmp.tns" file. All similar Ndless programs will have to be updated in order to support this new feature. We hope to see updates for mViewer, nDoom, gbc4nspire and nespire soon Download the latest Ndless 3.1: http://www.unsads.com/projects/nsptools/downloader/download/release/1

I am just assuming that nDoom is based off of the original DooM source code at iD's website. That's right.

I've uploaded some more zoomed in photos of other TI-Phoenix 1 development board parts. Check them in the TI-Planet gallery: http://tiplanet.org/forum/gallery/album.php?album_id=49We are now finished with the right side of the board. Try assembling this big puzzle

Unsupported PWAD give an error message. As designed in nDoom 1.0, messages automatically kill the game.
Some messages might just be minor warnings and the PWAD file might run correctly by just commenting the error message.
I've just tried exactly that. DoomZ98, the Dragon Ball Z PWAD, didn't want to load because of a supposed "invalid sprite frame". I just turned the fatal error message into a warning message and it's working DoomZ98 PWAD -> http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=3938Requires the updated 2.11 nDoom -> http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=3889I might go on like that: turning fatal error messages into warning messages to let more PWAD run the best they can. It's better to try to run them anyway

You just need the ".wad" file. ".pk3" files aren't supported.
Do you have a link?

I assume them to be a minority, but many PWAD files are supported. I've uploaded some of them here: http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_list.php?id=Patchs%20Niveaux%20Doom2%20NspireAll those PWAD are working. Unsupported PWAD give an error message. As designed in nDoom 1.0, messages automatically kill the game. Some messages might just be minor warnings and the PWAD file might run correctly by just commenting the error message. Again, for testing and improving PWAD support, I need your help

Did you believe nDoom 2.0 couldn't become more epic? Today you get nDoom 2.1 with a new major functionnality: the support for PWAD files! There are 2 kinds of Doom WAD files: * IWAD * PWAD IWAD files include all the data needed to run the game. They're quite big but can be used alone. PWAD files (Patch-WAD) only include some data. Usually small, they can't be used alone. They are designed to be loaded over an IWAD file in order to replace some maps or sprites for example. Some commercial WAD files are PWADs, like the ones in the Master Levels for Doom II: But allmost every 3rd party WAD file available on the Internet is a PWAD file. So there were thousands of WAD files on the Internet that you couldn't use with nDoom untill today. You can even patch your game several times! Here is Doom2 patched with 2 PWAD files: - the Otakon levels - the Nintendo skins Although all 20 commercial PWAD files from the Master Levels for Doom II are working perfectly, there are many various PWAD editors/generators and not every PWAD seems to be supported for now. Please help me determine/understand which PWAD are or aren't working, and which PWAD would really be worth supporting. After Doom, 2 new TI-Nspire ports this evening: the free zlib and libpng libraries by JayTe. Together, we have integrated those ports in mViewer CX Edition, making it the first PNG image reader on the TI-Nspire! Download from the TI-Planet news: http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=8718

I do use byte-sized accesses to the screen buffer...

« on: January 26, 2012, 01:33:25 pm »
Which my code shouldn't do... So it's going to be hard to debug that. Moreover, the bug seems to be random

In a previous news, we were discovering that the TI-Nspire ViewScreen peripheral was a true TI-Nspire calculator and was including an OS, a Boot1, a Boot2, and a Diagnostic software. Since, we have discovered that the TI-Nspire Lab Cradle peripheral a real TI-Nspire calculator too, including an OS, a Boot1 and a Boot2. Launching software. But one question remained... Did the TI-Nspire Lab Cradle include a Diagnostic software too, although they've only got one key? And as reported in two news on TI-Planet, we have answers for you! And the answer is definately yes according to the system strings. It should look like that: TI-Data Collection System(DCS) DIAG 1.Memory 2.Power Port Test 3.USB Hub Test 4.BTD Port Test 5.BTA Port Test 6.Expansion Test 7.Information screen 0.Additional Function We assume it should output/input on the RS232 port. Next question is then how to launch it with only one key which doesn't seem to trigger anything at boot time... And we allready have the next answer: there is probably no diags shortcut, but there is a maintenance menu in the Boot1 (yes, not the Boot2) and the diags can be launched from this menu: Maintenance Menu D: Start Diagnostics O: Start OS (Boot2) U: Download and Update Boot2 Y: Download and Update Diagnostics I: Download and Update Preinstall Image T: Toggle Startup Mode (Diag<->Boot2)
W: Erase File System E: Erase Diagnostics B: Erase Boot 2 A: Erase All
R: Reboot S: ReWrite Data Collection Sled Manufacturing Info M: Reset mark But this means we've got another question now: how can we launch the Lab Cradle maintenance menu with only one key which doesn't seem to trigger anything at boot time?...

To make things clear: Program that directly read the screen buffer might encounter this issue, on all hardware. I'm not sure why though. Changing this in Ndless's Particles demo did fix the issue. critor, you should also check this in nDoom. nspire_emu should help you.
But what do you mean by "reading the screen buffer" ? The code is supposed to "write to the screen buffer", isn't it?
