News / Re: Mod your prototype Nspire into a production one
« on: November 20, 2011, 02:42:43 pm »
So is it possible to run a CAS OS on a non-CAS prototype ?
And with older prototypes, is it possible ?

Not for the moment.

The Boot2 is the regular 1.4.1571. So it does check for the OS production signature, and for the CAS/non-CAS model ID.

So this prototype currently only accepts non-CAS production OSes and cannot be easily downgraded back to a developer OS any more.

The current mod has nothing to do directly with running a 3rd party OS.

News / Mod your prototype Nspire into a production one

We did it! Today is a great day we shall remember of with the rage comic below:

What's all this about? Do you remember the ClickPad Nspire prototypes whose Boot1 & Boot2 were using developer RSA keys instead of production ones? The protypes on which you couldn't install productions OSes from TI website? The prototypes where you could only intall some prehistoric 1.1 & 1.2 developer OSes available only on TI-Planet?

So, check this:

It's a P3-DVT2.0 basic Nspire prototype originally running OS 1.1.9227. And here it's running OS 3.0.1.1753 without any problem.

In theory, every TI-Nspire ClickPad prototype can be modded into a production Nspire and accept production OS.

You still have some Nspire prototypes in your desk? Consider that you'll have a new Npire in some weeks when the tutorial and the required tools will be released.

I don't know. He kind of disappeared after asking. The last time he logged in was about two weeks after his initial post.

TI striked again :P

R02D is a resistor - should be able to solder that .......
Dont know the size of the resistance.

Yes we should be able to solder a resistor, but we have to solder it on *something*.

Just check: the circuit connected to the NOR chip pin is gone :(

Can't be sure if this is related or not, but Excale spotted me the disappearance of R02D near the NOR chip between the prototype and production model:

If this is the reason, I don't think we can fix that :(

But could it not be that the non-prototype used a different type of nor, differently accessible than the prototype? It might be that its not protected, but that it works just different?

According to Datamath.org, the prototype and non-prototype basic ClickPad models are using the same NOR chip:

So we have assumed in the above posts that the Boot1 on prototype Nspire ClickPad was rewriteable (which is a very good news if right, and a wonderfull hope for those owning such models currently limited to OSes 1.1/1.2 because of different RSA signing keys).

The only remaining question was if it was also possible on production Nspire ClickPad.

Here's the same Ndless program running simultaneously on a prototype (on the left) and on a production model, trying to get the NOR chip ID:

On the left it does pass. :)
On the right it does fail. :(

Which would mean if the test is correct, that TI added some software/hardware protection on production Nspire ClickPad models, preventing direct access to the NOR chip.

Wouldn't that mean that prototypes prices should raise on eBay soon? :P

Where is he? So I can uprate him :P

Levak, come here!

EDIT: Also, why is that bottom part of that picture 'censored'?

I think the upload on Levak's server did fail on that file.

TI-Nspire / Nspire maze

Here's labyrinthe, a nice Lua maze game for your TI-Nspire, designed for our Nspire-Lua contest:

Although it's in french, I think it does deserve a try.

You've dreamed of it? ;)

Levak made it. :)

The 1st real homemade Nspire dock connector with all 26 wires.

Just imagine everything you could do with that:
- power external peripherals
- connect a 2nd USB port
- power your Nspire externally
- connect a SD card reader
- connect a WiFi module
- ...

Other Calculators / Here comes Ndless 1.2
« on: November 10, 2011, 07:57:32 pm »
After Ndless 1.1 prototype and Ndless 1.2 prototype, Bsl and me are releasing another Ndless version based on Ndless 1.1.1: Ndless 1.2.

You can now run assembly programs on production Nspire with OS 1.2 too.

It might be of some little use to you, as some Ndless 1.1 programs have never been recompiled for Ndless 1.7/2.0 and as OS 1.1 is nowhere to be found on the Internet.

Upgrading to Ndless 1.2 might get rid of the famous power bug too.

En fait, je propose de splitter le topic ailleurs dans l'immédiat.

Pour que ça continue?... :(
