TI-Nspire / GeNspire
« on: April 14, 2013, 02:47:25 pm »
I have recently begun a port of the Gens II Genesis emulator to the Nspire, to be run natively as though it were another emulator (e.g. gpSP-Nspire, gbc4Nspire, NESpire, calcemu, MinivMac) to play your favorite (Sonic The Hedgehog) games on your Nspire. :) I will begin with a minimal Genesis, then move on to include the Mega Drive and CD. I'll include many features in the future, but for now I'm sticking to minimalist code.

Discussion environment initiated. Questions, suggestions, help, or ideas are invited. When I get a promising result, I'll post it in this topic header. :)

Unfortunately, recent developments require me to focus a significantly larger amount of my energy and time towards the piano and my academic studies, probably tripling of the amount of time I spend on work, and making it impossible for me to learn the C to do this properly.

I have gone through the source of what I posted down there, and the common directory would be 100% Nspire compatible! :D So, if anybody with free time and a little bit of C experience wants to actually just write a main loop and a GUI with the source already there, they could finish this project. I really got no work done, except for a test which had some promising yet undesired results.

VAT entries are twelve bytes, and also, clearing your RAM helps. Don't do math with OS variables prior to playing large games, and graphing/strings/lists/matrices are huge NO-NO's.

aeTIos, one step at a time, my friend. Genesis is fully written and designed to be portable.
Upping the base CPU ups the actual CPU, so it's okay. Otherwise, it says danger immediately lol.

commodore 64 is a bit of a challenge because it's out of my comfort zone hardware wise, but I'll do it after Genesis if I deem it possible for me.

General Calculator Help / Re: Opening a TI-Nspire CX CAS

I've done so much taking apart that I have pretty much every size of every type of screwdriver on the market.
But, before I had those, I used an amazing trick that has sketchy results (takes practice.):

Grab a lighter and a pen with plastic at the end, not a clicky pen. Melt the plastic at the end until it's a gel/liquid and firmly press straight down (CRUCIAL: It CANNOT be at an angle or it will probably break.) and wait for about 15-30 seconds. Now start screwing gently and if the screw is deep enough, you should have a screwdriver that can unscrew any other screws of the same type for about 10 uses before it wears down. :) Congratulations, you just MacGuyver'd a screw.

THIS WAS INVENTED BY ME! TAKE THAT EHOW!!

Few problems I have encountered:
Figuring out how to use drop down menus is a hassle.
There is no "controls" section of the help.
Rebooting/shutting down and turning back on causes the system to be unable to locate/read/initialize it's disk image. So rebooting is a nono.

There are no save states, and instead of control, I suggest using a button like docs to pull up the emulator controls.
I was thinking of porting Mac 9 to the calcs after GNesis (spelled it that way on purpose) is at least stable. :) This is so cool

I might work on this to change the GUI of Nspire itself and make it look like a Wii or something :) I'm learning Nspire C and porting Genesis Plus isn't easy, so I'm doing littler projects to learn more when I hit a stump.

This project doesn't work. It throws me the classic "Your version of Ndless is too old!" error! Why am I geting this so often?
