:D I'll test your version, fellow ROM hacker! :D
I'll upload a file... You can edit it with notepad++ :)

How on earth does someone "time" a processor with only the processor to do so?
And the same goes for keypresses! Wahh lol
Should I test different OS versions?

For me, I can boot into the initrd just fine. But I can't boot a flash drive with small_config untarred to it...
I know Linux. I mounted it fine, and it seems to recognize the device! But I have no idea how to boot into Linux from the FS on the flas drive. Step by step instructions, newb proof, are some helpful things?

I run a start_initrd.ll2.tns with the following commands:
kernel linux/zImage.tns
rootdelay=10
cmdline root=/dev/sda rootdelay=10 cx_usb_otg
boot

My flash drive is formatted to ext2.

desderp, I meant the format :)
Like
"Pokemon Emerald.cht.tns
gameshark_v3 12346567890ABCDEF"

A checksum is a security check, basically. If you add up and subtract down all of the number in the file you are checking, it will return an extremely unique value. This value can only be reproduced by performing the same exact check on the exact same file. In this case, we use md5. Files are, after all, just a humungous number written in hexadecimal. :)

Reflashing the fs, which stands for FileSystem, on an Nspire basically means wiping it completely and putting the fs back on it.

Well I believe there should be a check for the 10th, 50th, and 100th palindromes, or three within a certain range, depending on the model. That way, everybody can fairly compare. :)
I lost my function! Rewriting it now...

I love discussions like this! :D

Are you going for a CX or non CX? Because the CX non-CAS is the most widely used right now. The CAS is amazing for math, though, and plus, I believe that CAS models have slightly better stats (Average CPU max on CX's is about 250Mhz, my CX CAS gets 264Mhz safely :), and 16 Mb more storage space on CAS... )... But as of late, there is debate whether the 15 dollars is worth it. This is because of nLaunch, the tool that can be used to run a CAS operating system on a non-CAS Nspire. My observation, however, is that it is still a sketchy process that many experts on Nspires still have trouble with. Nspires are hard to hack, and it's often not worth it to newbs to hack it for any purpose except gaming. If gaming is what you want, then I'd get a CX CAS for storage space, and the CPU. If math is your game, (puns, my friends!), then you will have to decide: "Is it worth it to try to run a very different OS on a calculator that shouldn't support it at all?" because I have seen no newb-proof tutorials yet about that sort of thing yet...
CX CAS is my baby :)

The worst thing I can suggest for any developer is to spend a long time writing a VERY promising program (I mean, this could'dve been published it was so dang good...) and then to test on the calculator without having backed up.

Well, Stefan, I happen to think that it could handle building, albeit it may take a while. Less intensive builds may work. I just don't suggest anyone attempt Dolphin-Emu (which I tried!)...

Yayyy xserver! thanks Voginator! I'll boot into this as an fs on a flash drive :D

I must say, simply putting Linux on an Nspire will NOT be enough to use things such as internet browsing or gaming. I think this version doesn't come with the "make" command which is really a necessary command to run any useful games.
That being said, good luck newbs.. I have had to learn a lot to even get the tiniest amount of practical use out of Linux on Nspires.
Voginator, can you just link directly to the builds you have posted on TI planet that have things like Links and more commands? :)

Sorry for not helping out. What about questions that aren't noobish, like requests?

So it's obviously a lot of work... Hrm. Darn.
At least it works this well so far. I'll try not to lose my Genesis Emu...

Runer, I meant patch using a compiled patch. That's how games are patched: same language code is written and the patchermodifies the code accordingly.

A patch should be feasible, then. But I can't write it!
Just add something to the very end of the file and something at the very beginning to call to it :)
