Does anyone know how to get a computer to boot from the NIC? I can at least do that from the boot menu.

Yeah, its pretty flat in Michigan (at least where I used to live). Now I live in Washington, somewhat close to a lake, so everything is uphill from my house

I have a friend who makes TI-BASIC homework helper programs, I'm trying to get him to learn Axe or C (he has an Nspire as well). Then, there's all the other people that I guide through their "block dude awakening"

My school's comps are terrible too. Access to the C:\ drive is disabled, you can't save downloads (and when you choose run, it saves to the temp folder which is of course in the C drive so it fails to run, BIOS is locked, can't boot from CD/USB, right click menu is disabled in Explorer, which is very inconvenient when you try to create a new file, logins are your student ID number rather than name, takes 5 minutes to boot computer, takes another three to log in, and on and on. I hope I can get a netbook by next year.

That would actually be a good concept for a calc game

At my middle school, there is a drug-sniffing dog, but I never heard of anyone being caught. Worst thing that happened there was some 7th graders lit a trash can on fire in the bathroom last year. Now that I'm in high school, on one hand, there's a good chance something will happen, on the other hand its one of the top 20 schools in the US so maybe not as from what I have heard everyone is generally not prone to stupidity .

IMO C is fine as a starting language, as long as it is just console programs at first, "visual" and GUIs in general add a level of complexity that can be daunting. I have a C book that starts out with simple exercises, such as printing out a Fahrenheit-Celsius table, and other problems similar to what you would find in a textbook. So really, it is not a problem of the language used (as long as it is line-based and non-OOP), but rather how it goes about being taught.

calc84 made a version that works with the actual arrow keys on the touchpad, have you tried that?

I've only really used Google Earth, and mostly at school because we are only allowed to use stuff installed on the computer . I should probably get Flight Gear now that I have a computer with enough disk space for it though Oh, and I like flying planes in Just Cause 2, landing them is a challenge, but the physics are too unrealistic for it to count as a sim

In my experience, the metal cruzer micros (like this) are very good, I have a 1GB (which I bought for $60 six years ago ), a 2GB and a 4GB one, they all work and have survived numerous trips through the washing machine Don't get the cruzer micro retractable ones though, I bought a three pack and two of the drives died after a year.

Casio Calculators / Re: Why not to ask for people to port games from the Prizm to the Nspire CX« on: September 11, 2011, 05:59:09 pm »
It would be interesting to see an abstraction layer that have the same function calls for stuff like drawing and getting key input for each calc, allowing for simultaneous development for both calcs. (IDK what to do about the different screen sizes though) To make programs for both, it has to start from the very beginning, as making a complete game for one then porting to the other is harder.

I wonder if schools would use it if it ever took off? (Then again, schools still use TI's 84+ emulator which they have to buy, when there is many free emulators available that do just as good a job.) 315
