TI-Nspire / Re: nFrotz—Endless adventure games on the TI-Nspire!
« on: January 01, 2015, 10:27:17 pm »
Hello!!

Wow I honestly thought this was dead. I just happened to check this forum and found that you recently responded and I thank you for that.

To answer your question I am using the CX version of the Nspire.

I have not really used NFrotz in a long time so I will start doing so once again. I look forward to your work on this and truly appreciate it.

Blessings!!

Hi I am just wondering if you have had any time to work on this?

I for one love it and am so happy and very excited to use it on my Nspire. Thanks a million for doing this. Nfrotz is awesome!!!

EDIT: OK I wanted to post a few things concerning Nfrotz. Here is what I wrote:

First I am using Nfrotz V1.0 and I am using Ndless 3.6.

When I try and start nFrotz by clicking on it directly my calculator freezes. I have to reset the calculator and then I have to re-install Ndless.

Is there any way that when you click on Nfrotz it will bring up some kind of menu that will let you choose what text adventure you want to play within Nfrotz? That would be a good feature. Like I said above I get the exact opposite effect now. When I click on Nfrotz my calculator freezes and I need to reset it and re-install Ndless.

Another question I have is there any way to escape out of the animations? The first animation when you start a game, quits when I hit escape. Is it possible to have all animations quit when escape is pressed? The particle effect animations look neat but are they necessary?

I have also found that when a big block of text scrolls down the screen it scrolls past the screen and you cannot scroll up to read the text that passes by.

With all this being said I want to thank you for your time on working on this. I for one really appreciate it.

Forget it Critor...I figured it out. It turns out it was pretty straight forward :) I was able to convert a .pdf for my Nspire.

But I am wondering if the pdf file is just an image if it still works?

Hi Critor,

Does it work if the PDF is just an image? I tried it but did not have success.

I wish there was some sort of documentation or explanation regarding how to use it. In my opinion it is not very straight forward.

What exactly does the Apply button do? Do I use Apply before hitting the Download button?

Once I logged into TI-Planet I filled in the Filename field and description field. I then browsed my machine to where the .pdf was located. I left Lua selected and then I hit the Apply button.

In the bottom left corner of my browser it says "Sending request to tiplanet.org..."

I have tried this quite a few times and it seems to timeout.

Does this mean to not hit the Apply button and instead hit the Download button?

Why is there a File 1 area on the page and a File 2 area? Please explain how to use it. What is the difference between File 1 and File 2? I am a non-French speaker.

I apologize if you think it is intuitive. I just do not seem to follow how to use it.

Thank you in advance.

How is the progress on this coming along?

This will be an essential program for all owners of the Nspire. Keep at it we really need this.

If you have a text file that contains UTF-8 try opening the file up using Notepad++. Notepad++ gives the option to convert to ANSI. See if that works.

I decided to try this out since I love the idea of an eBook reader. I had a text file and dropped it onto ebook.exe and it spit a file two out (TITLE_OF_eBOOK.lua and TITLE_OF_eBOOK.tns). I transfered that .tns file but I was unable to open it.

Ugghhh!!

So I came back to this thread and read what the author said about text files that contain Unicode characters. I did a google search but did not find a quick way of removing the Unicode characters so I was stuck. I kind of gave up on it. Then I decided to open my original text file up using Notepad++

I discovered a great thing about Notepad++. It has the ability to convert text files to ANSI.

To do that just open your original text file up, prior to converting it using the ebook software, in Notepad++. Then choose:

"Encoding, Convert to ANSI".

Save that converted text file and convert it using the ebook software and BOOM!!! You have a file that you can use on the Nspire.

Oh OK...I was also thinking you could use it for reading text files like an eBook reader. The file would be in plain text. But since this has trouble with special characters it would not work. The Lua based eBook reader that someone made has the same issue. If I have a pretty big file I would have to go through it and get rid of the special characters which would be very time consuming.

Forgive me for asking this but what do you guys use a text editor for on the calculator? I am just curious.

Yeah I am glad to see this. I upgraded my Nspire's OS (if you want to call it an upgrade) and all I can use is software that does not require Ndless. Thanks for taking the time to make and share this.

I can no longer use anything. I made the mistake of upgrading my OS to 3.6

I have not been staying up to the minute on TI News and did not know that upgrading would have the consequences that it did. So I am sad about this.

As far as I know I am screwed at this point.

@nspireguy No I am not mormon.

Yeah from what I was reading the nPDF software would not work for this. Great idea and I hope someday it works perfectly as I have PDFs that would be perfect on the NSpire.

Something along the lines like what Thomas Nussbaumer had for the 89 would be awesome. Or the app that TI made available for the 89 was great as well.

If anyone can do something like this it would be you guys here in this community.

The Lua based eBook reader that DJ Omnimaga posted might be the closest thing so far.

Another idea to get the file size down is to break up the Old and New Testaments. You could even have each separate book as a separate file. That is what I did for the TI-89 eBook reader way back when. I just transferred the books I wanted to read to save room on the calc.

Does anyone know if a KJV bible exists for the NSpire?

The TI-89 has the famous eBook reader that made it possible to convert text files into eBooks. But does the NSpire have such software?

If not can anyone create this??? :)
