str1 + pixel-test(X,Y->str1

That doesn't work.  How about:  str1+sub("01",pxl-Test(X,Y),1->str1.  That should work.  You would put it in two for( loops X and Y (I recomend using different variables in it's place though since this program is run using graph screen).  Good luck on this, it could be very useful.

Yeah I figured it would not work, as I was typing this after getting home from work at a late time. Thanks for the correction.

I need to post metriod code so kalan can optimize it completly (j/k)

I was able to look at some of the code which was posted on June third at Loki's forums, and it looks great. I would be able to give a hand in helping the size go down, and most likely the speed. Let me know if you would like some help with the task at hand.

3. No extra tut that I know of. Hm, we could make one...

There was one in development, but due to loss of help it was dropped as far as I know (necro had taken it into his hands, but he needed help then no one wanted to give a hand).

Welcome here, I hope you enjoy your stay! And if you would like to post some code I will be glade to help out.

I liked the idea of a custom map file type.  I dont like how much space matrices take up.

But with the other methods of data storage it is the easiest and most efficient. As you could use strings, but it will be more complicated. Patrick could implement such a string based map storage where it uses characters along with numeric values, as it would be more difficult to make maps with just numeric values in strings (you would have to use a define key to show if you wish to make the tile number greater than 10, as -9 would be one digit but 10 would not work with out some type of identifier to show it is a two digit value). The thing with that is that you would need to specify decimals for values, but it is possible.

Web Programming and Design / Browser War
« on: July 03, 2006, 08:52:00 pm »
A few things must be said here, but I do not feel like gathering up all the information to back me up here. IE has been slow and unsafe for a while, but with the changes made/being made it will prove to be a powerful browser. I have always went with voting for Firefox, for I enjoy using it and is quite comfortable. But the one who I believe to be the greatest here is Opera. Opera has made several innovations that other browsers adapted later on, one being tabbed browsing as stated above. But beyond that it has many useful things such as widgets, which can be added in Firefox but those are extensions (which are close in resemblance).

Over all, it looks like IE will be ahead of all the other browsers in the future as Microsoft is a bigger company and it comes standard with all PC based systems. Firefox and Opera are wonderful browsers, but it lacks the force behind it (ie. the money). Most people do not know that there are better browsers than IE or if any had exists, as those people do not seek a better browser. Now Firefox looks like it is bigger now as it has been free since the beginning, as opposed to Opera, but now that Opera has become free it looks like it will be used by many more than before.

The last thing I think needs to be mentioned, for those who have not heard, is that Firefox has been purchased by Google. And for those who do not know, Google has become a big competitor to that of Microsoft. So now that Firefox has been placed in the hands of a powerful and well known company, it will be spread more appropriately (as far as I would think).

All in all, the choice comes to the users preference. I do not care what anyone uses, nor do I care what one says of any. Use what you want and that will be good enough to me, but I would like for those to as least use Firefox or Opera for safety reasons. At least until the newer version of IE come out officially.

TI Z80 / Sprite 2 hex

It is possible to make such a useful utility, as you have done with the hex to sprite program. What I would do is make options for the user to select the part of the image they want to convert to hex, like a mapmaker but where you can select 8x8, 16x16, 8x16 etc. up to the whole image. I would then take that part of the picture and do the usual and have a for loop with the conditions for the area being stored to hex. In the loop I would simply do, str1 + pixel-test(X,Y->str1 . In such a way I would then go through the string and convert into hex.

Sorry if you have thought of this already, but I just thought I would give my two cents. Also if you wanted to you could convert straight to hex on the go, but I would suspect that being slower.

The wait is well worth the effort, as it will be continuelessly downloaded for years to come. I believe this is a great thing you have completed, as I was one who was really sadden by the death of diortem. But all is good, as you have come back and revived a game of such into greatness. I hope to see only more powerful and wonderess things from you Kevin for years to come.

News / Metroid Pure Released!

Twice I have been lucky enough to talk with the maker of such great games in real life, and I must say that this is a major feat to have come across. I have always liked the power of xLIB, but when one can make such a great thing using pure basic, it is a major accomplishment. I have plans as such making my own games into that of pure basic once completed, but I will not surpass one as great as this.

@Kevin: Sweet man, I hope you enjoy it and stay up late :Ptongue.gif

I feel the opposite, as I want to program (when I get time...) and not want to come online anymore.
