General Calculator Help / I bought the wrong cable, can I still use it?

Im getting a TI83 later today or tomorrow and I purchased a normal 2.5mm to USB cable instead of the Silverlink cable, can I still use it, even if I have to install third party software. All I need to use it for is transferring programs.
