xlibman, how did you quit? With [ON]?

Just press [mode] to open the pause menu.

stikish soldiers would be quite ok if you can see if they are trooper, archer, rider, hunter or recruit.

There will be some grey-functions intergated soon, but it's not everything done, yet...

Ok.  :alien:alien2.gif I did some work and the next version is done.
I even integrated a bonus-level  <_<dry.gif
I don't really know why I wasted more time with this project,
maybe I just wanted to get it done instead of stopping at a 90%-Progress

If anyone is interested - it's attached in the first post.

Now I can at least say it's done and not dead  :Dbiggrin.gif .

Thanks for the compliments, Dragon_Lance! I hope I'll manage to make a good AI and battlemode...

One suggestion to improve the game is maybe XORing the cursor,as it overwrites the current tile

Oh, no! I tried that and it didn't look better than this...

also, each time you play the game, you get a new HQ!

? A reason for that could be, that you didn't start playing from the program 'AOC2', you just opended the program 'MAP',
or that you everytime pressed the 'New Game'-button
I just tried it and when I load a saved game I don't get a new HQ...

--- --- --- ---

I've got a little problem; I need 8*8 sprites for the soldiers but I can't draw them because then they would really look weird...
So if you have sprites of you feel able to make 5 different 8*8 soldier sprites, just post 'em!

how did u know elf birthday?

I was on UTI and I saw it in the information-bar very left. I thought maybe you don't know it and I just posted it here.

Version update: version 0.5.

New features:
-Stable-menu
-Better, Smoother, Faster cursor
-the Pause-menu which feels really awesome.
You can change the game speed, change the contrast and save.
(This menu is so perfectly graphical... check it out!!!)

-and also a little Readme (includes just Installing instructions and credits, 'Usage' will come later.)

Download is attached in the first post.

I just uploaded a new version which fixes two nasty bugs;

1. you couldn't load a tilemap directly from the main-menu of the map editor. fixed.

2. when you pressed [MODE] at the very-main-menu, the program was shut down, but the contrast wasn't set to default. fixed.

and 3. It looked as if the calc would crash everytime you entered from the greyscale-title to the main-menu or when you came to the menu. It looks smoother now  :)smile.gif

Not really important updates (apart from no 1!) and I didn't add any stuff, but now it's really perfect.
Made in germany  :wacko:triso2.gif

Latest version is in the first post.

:lol:bounce2.gif  Yea I started to work on the Pause-Menu and speeding-up the cursor-engine - It's so awesome. What I can say so far is that the pause menu pops up very cool and you'll be able to change the interval in which you get ressources (which also means the interval in which the AI builds soldiers and so on), and also the contrast.
When I'm done it'll be much smoother...  :Dbiggrin.gif

new screenshot: user posted image

You'll get the next demo when the pause-menu is finished

EDIT: OMG!!! Look what I found:

Pindur does not emulate the grayscale very well, so I would have to record my calc with a camera for it to look right

You can even scan a 4-level grey-picture oncalc  -.-blah.gif
I tried it and I was very amazed - but afterwards I could even see what's dark and what's light-grey  :Dbiggrin.gif

Oh I forgot to say - greyscale games without any scanlines are awesome!!!

o.oblink.gifo.oblink.gifo.oblink.gif 151 sprites???  If you get problems with the memory you should take some of them out - no really!!!
(btw 151 is just the half of the pokemon which 'exist' tooday, I don't want to know how many they are when Pokemon Pearl is coming out!)
---
How long did it take you? Wow, respect for this work...

By the way I know the routine you used in the Pokedex - I used the same one in Age of culture I and I would advise you urgently to use xLIB!!!
It's so simple - and another argument would be that it's perfect for a pokemon game because it can create tilemaps, draw sprites,... and you could just save all your 151 sprites in some hacked pictures. the tilemap data in another picture (-54125+9) and on this way you won't need any loading time in the pokedex, you could very easy create great looking maps and so on, and so on...

So please think about my advise - because otherwhise you will end up with a game which is like Age of culture I; huge, beautiful, but slow - in spite of the fact that you put hours of work into it...  :banghead:banghead.gif

If you use xLIB it'll become a great game like Age of culture II; at least as beautiful as AOC I, fast, and 75% the size of AOC I  :king:king2.gif

I know exactly what I am talking about! I made these two examples (I still code on AOC II) and I pray to you, think about it  :bow:worship.gif !!!
------------------------------

Apart from this, you should really get a lot of respect for all this work you did and I understand you if you don't want to start using xLIB now cause it's too late (depends on the progress you already have!)...

Nothing of this text is ment rude - I hope my grammar wasn't too bad so that you see it's ment constructive

When I hear greyscale+basic...
Really genious would be aroutine which needs 2 pics input and then uses them for displaying a greyscale-picture while waiting for a key and storing the number of the key into ans.

That could be e.g. used for Rpgs... you only need 2 layers to create 4-lvl-greyscale, allright? So you could create the two pics with the tilemap-function, store them, and then use THIS new function to create a (think so) quite flickerless greyscale. And when you have the getkey in ans afterward it would be perfect!
Basically that would be the loop containing grey+getkey, just in asm.

yay, yay, yay and yay again! This is Xtremely rocking!!!
excellent work, spellshaper  :thumbup:google.gif:thumbup:google.gif:thumbup:google.gif

progress news
the menu of the barracks and the stable is done. I also changed the cursor so that it looks a bit different and runs much faster.
And then I filled the third place in the ressource-bar with two numbers;

number of units / unit-maximum (which is set to 10)

after all quite much progress   :psychedelic:happy0075.gif
Now I'll work on the pause-menu and afterwards on the smith...

Yea - that would also be helpful in my Strategy-type-game 'Age of culture II' because I plan to integrate some more maps as the one in the demo. That would even allow to integrate much bigger maps...

I need the routines to (de-)compress...
Integrated in xLIB that would be totally owning - I just say speed %)rolleyes2.gif

kallan, you rock!
