TI-Nspire / Re: Virus to crack RSA for nspire? :P
« on: September 09, 2010, 04:48:38 pm »
If only we had a quantum computer...
Yea men that would help. As far as my understanding goes to Quantum computers a working model should theoretically solve this problem instantly.

What really boggles me is that we are skimming trough more possibilities then atoms in the know universe, zomg, that gives a vague idea of the amount of computer power it requires...even if examining each atom would take just a planck second it would still take long to calculate.  I myself have a theory on a better approach that simply increases the possibility of finding it, its still brute force though.

My idea is like this:
Code: [Select]
we start brute forcing in the middle of all the possibilities. In the exact middle that is. So if a key is 32 bits we factor a key that has the decimal value 16.
Then we divide by two and factor decimal 8, at the same time we multiply by two and examine decimal 32, next is decimal 64 but since that is out of bounds
we start dividing only now we divide by three (if dividing caused crossing the upper bound we will round down if dividing caused crossing the lower
bound we round up and then multiply), if by dividing we cross the lower bound we simply multiply by 3, 4 then 5 etc.
so:

try(0F)

then

try(08)
try(FF)

then

try(04)
try(0A)

then

try(02)
try(03)

then

try(06)
try(01)

Edit; I have very poorly documented it/ written it but just for the 'image' this is how it should work;

you start out in the middle then you examine the middle of the middle then the middle of the middle of the middle etc. You wont cover all numbers with this but I developed a method in my head already to do so....its VERY hard to explain and I don't think its correct but i'll try to work it out anyways...

Edit2: Maybe the virus idea isn't so bad after all, I mean seriously if we really want this this is the most viable option. I don't like to virus-bug people though...if anyone plans to do this I reccomend that person to take personal responsibility and leave all the communities outside of this, basically keep the calc-community from getting sewed...

Introduce Yourself! / My 'Hello' to you.
« on: September 09, 2010, 11:12:18 am »
Just like Snake X i am pretty late with this but anyways it can't really hurt to make this topic so well,

Hello.

That is the first thing I'd like to say :p. Let me just quickly rant trough some of the basic information:

I am 17 years old and i will get 18 the 16th september (yea ;)) so that is pretty soon...
I have had a very, very broad intrest of things since childhood. Lately I am getting especially intrested in the sciences mostly: Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Cosmology, Astrology etc. As long as it has to do with the universe I am happy. I don't do any sports altough I did do sports when I was younger...

I also play the piano, like to write, draw, sing well all those arts really except the real modern ones in which a cube has to represent the sun (yea right...). I also had a period in which I was extremly into politics but that has left me now, my hobbies do however tend to go in periods, most perdiods lasting for no more then 2 years. The only things that survived are my love for programming and my addiction to watch documentaries, my god I have seen ALOT of documentaries ranging from topics like 'bigfoot' till 'assassination of hitler' and 'blowing up the universe' I think my counter is over a 500 by now...

I try to be as knowledgeable about as much as I can, I am no Huomo unversalis since I am not good at everything at all but I do try to be :P

And that, is me.

This slightly confuses me, could you be so kind as to explain it? :)

KnightOS / Re: KnightOS
« on: September 09, 2010, 10:56:07 am »
Oh, right.  The game will still take up processing power, but will be notified that it lost focus, and should pause and take up less of the CPU.  It could even disable itself until the OS comes back to it.
sorry to bump this but will the 'paused' game just be doing nop instructions? or will it just re-execute the last entry on the program stack ?(which can have horrible results when in the game you are doing a calculation like add a, a because then it will keep on adding...).
or will the program be going into a sort of savestate (pushing all used regs and so)?

Notice that this is just all speculating...

Bravo!

Well solved! I am now also aware of the sensitivity in these forums or on certain topics so I know what I can and can not say. I had a tough time getting used to it, I always tend to play things by my own rules. Maybe that is arrogance, who knows...anyway it isn't appreciated here so I'll just adjust and I think I am getting better at it lately...

I now tend to re-read what I post alot more and if I am undusre about one or more sentences then I just add a warning in parenthesis.
I think I also have a better feel of where the borders lay on this forum, some forums are stricter on double posts for example and other forums are looser on it. In the same way some forums leave their members saying what they want and I myself did only just recently realize how nasty those places are, really. I know quite some fora in my native language that are being left nearly unmoderated and are therefore quite harsh...

It depends on what you want a neat forum but very strictly moderated or a very loose and free forum but therefore, most of the time, nasty and harsh...

/nederlands\

A vastly intresting topic, not something I have experience in though. Reminds me of borderlands (a game) with its procedural gun generating system to make over 17.5 million guns (according to the last official count). Yep that is more then CoD has :P

For odd reasons, I feel more comfortable sharing some of my stuff with people online than in real life, although IRL I do not mind doing so with my mom. The reason is simple: IRL, if I say something about myself involving negative stuff, then many other people in the city will know, no matter if I tell the person to not tell anyone. I speak from experiences I had in the past and that some other people had. I'M not sure in what kind of area I live but there aren,t anyone where I live that I can seem to trust. As a result, most people who are aware of my life issues are online. That said, I tend to not share everything online either, though, because in the past, some people have used this info at my expense. In one case, I was called emo-in-chief in a public TI calculator IRC channel I was not in with 60 users online (I just saw the logs at the time), despite that person seeming open to listening back then. Since that event, whenever I rant about life, it is in private channels/chats, the staff forum here or in Randomness. I had plans to move a certain topic from the staff forum to randomness recently but I am still relunctant about it, in case it eventually falls under the wrong real-life hands.

ANother issue that makes me talk less about my stuff compared to years ago is that often, there are people who impose their beliefs on me when trying to help me and assume if I try certain things it will work as easily as them and despite telling them I tried and tried, they won't listen. That usually makes me feel even worse about myself, so as a result, fewer and fewer people know about my personal details as time goes by.

I'll keep your offer in mind, though.
Good. You don't seem like you are rushing your choice which is great! Also my respects for even considering it, I am honored by it. I really am (especailly considering the arguments we have had). The amount of trust you put into me by even considering it, is tremendous. My respects.

Nice move! That's a thumbs up.
Thanks, my pleasure.

maybe it wasn't clear in my original post but I need to emphasize that this is a personal choice, you can choice not to be helped (because you don't need help or don't want it from me) or you can choice to get help. That choice is personal. With that I mean that in no way I am pressuring or try persue anybody to go talk with me.

It's your choice, your call. A important realization, you are your own master.

As the movie 'The Matrix' already made very, very clear. The 'problem' is choice, nobody, nothing can control choice, only you!

maybe this is really silly because I am a total axe newb but, unless Quibi...(ehr I always forget his name..sorry) plans to implent this anywhere soon why don't you make a axiom out of it? (< not to be rude, just a suggestion) I think it might be quite helpful especially for those who really want to sqeeuze bytes out of their programs...

Miscellaneous / If you need help on 'life' (serious topic)
« on: September 08, 2010, 10:01:40 am »
As I skimmed trhough some old topics here + my previous experience with some members I am getting the idea that some members are really going trough some heavy stuff in live. I have read about suicidal people, break-ups, other losses in the family etc. I want to offer help to those who still have problems or need a listening ear. I don't in anyway mean to be arrogant but from childhood on I have been asked many times to comfort others (or I did that from myself). Therefore I think I am able to help some people out, give some advice or just to listen. just being heard can be a terrific relief.

Since there are also people on these forums whom are uncertain about their social skills or who are shy, I think I can help. of course I can only do this much but the main reason I can help is because I have been shy, I have been a outstander, shortly said I know what it is like to be in those situations. Altough to you I am much of a stranger sometimes strangers can listen better and feel better what the real problem is and how to solve it.

Now I can very well anticipate that some if not most of you are a little anxious about sending me or telling me anything, well that is the first step to solve a problem, share it even if I wouldn't reply to it (which I won't (in other words I will reply)) it's still a relief to have it said. I can understand if you don't trust me so if you are anxious to leave a reply below you could send a PM. I promise I won't share any information unless explicitly allowed.

My apologies for just coming up with this topic but truth be said, I do think some people here need help and want help furthermore, I think I can provide help (albeit to a certain extend). I have no idea on how most members are doing now but if I look at the older topics (end '09 and begin '10) I can see lots of members having difficulties with all kinds of problems. Once again admitting a problem and then talk about it or just get it out there can be immersively relieving.

None of you have to contact me, if you don't want to, don't do it, if you can get proffesional help, do that. But if you just are frustated and want to get your story out just write it off and I'll try to give help as much as I can. I am just offering a handshake it is up to you to accept it or decline it (in which again, declining is very plausable and very much respected).

Once more sorry for coming up with this so radically and out-of-the-blue but I feel like I can and must help...

P.S. Just a recent personal experience:I myself recently had a problem which I couldn't get out of my head, I did not know what to do, that was, until I told a friend about it. I just feel like I can handle it now simply because I told it means I had to make a comprehending story, otherwise my friend wouldn't understand. So I did that, I just organized my mind, what had happened, why did I feel this or that way about it and how did this problem arise? By asking these kind of questions I came up with a crystal clear story, a comprehensive overview of my problem, next, I told my friend about it, he listened but he did not reply to it. That did not matter however because I listened to myself! I just listened to my own overview of this problem and by hearing it I could comprehend it fully! One could turn it upside down shake it around, toss with it and reverse it's order but the image, the overview was absolutely, unprofoundly clear. This way i could distantiate from the problem, I could overlook it! From that perspective things looked entirely different! I did not feel like this problem was anybody's fault anymore, I did not feel saddened about it anymore, I just fel the anger witdrawing...
To solve a problem is to oversee a problem and that is what I managed. With this story I am trying to make it very clear that I nor anyone else in this world is perfect, but to realize you are imperfect and then to know it doesn't matter (since everybody is imperfect) is just...a relief beyond comprehension.

I'm not quite sure that arbitrary precision (here, 1024 / 512 bits) arithmetic has been implemented on a GPU, even if I know that trial factoring Mersenne numbers to ~80 bits at least can be done on GPUs.
But let's assume arbitrary precision arithmetic has been implemented on a GPU, and for the sake of the argument, let's also assume that the GPU trial factoring program is a billion times faster than the CPU program (which is wildly optimistic !). It still wouldn't improve much the chances to find the factor by much: 1e154 - 1e22 ~ 1e154 >> the number of atoms in the universe >> 1e22 >> 1e13.

Remainder: trial factoring is completely impractical for our purposes, if nothing else because it requires many more operations than the number of atoms in the universe.
he he just wait until I have finished my fpga project then cracking this is easy :P (not)

[OTcalc] Z80-Software / Re: OT Basic
« on: September 06, 2010, 01:48:31 pm »
alright so i've been thinking a lot about the data types involved in this, and i think there shouldn't be too many as to confuse the casual programmer, but enough so an advanced programmer can save a lot of memory. thus, here are my suggestions for data types dealing with numbers only, excluding strings or data structures (lists/matrices/arrays) for now:

-Byte holds values -128 to 127, integers only
-2Byte holds values -32768  to 32767, integers only.
-4Byte Word holds values... really big. like -2 billion to 2 billion.
-16.16 fixed point values  -32768.32768 to 32767.32767
-the unsigned versions of the above numbers
-The OS Float, however the OS stores floating point, that's this data type. no unsigned version.

also, maybe have a menu where you can turn on and off advanced features, such as specifying what data type a variable should be. suggestions? also, adding in the array functions, multiple keypresses and foreign characters suggestions to the first post.

If I am catching you right then you also mean that when a user defines a variable and that variable is a number then the user also has to define what kind of type the number is? e.g.

Byte 1->aVar
Int 123->aOtherV
etc..

If so then I would make this optional in the following sense: If a user defines a variable that contains a number but he/she does not defines the number-variable's type then a floating point is assumed. So:

102->myVar

would be presumed to be a float which, logically, takes up more space then a int. A more advanced programmer therefore would do this:

Int 102->myVar.

Ther is one problem with this, mainly that the very word 'Int' itself takes up space. So maybe it'sbetter to do prefixes (I think we already discussed that but I am not sure...) I suggest these prefixes.

" --string
i --int
r --real
m --matrix
l --list
f -- float
o --bit (based on the 'switch' term... b for bit and f for flag are already used as 'byte' and 'float')
b --byte :=8bits
d --double byte :=16bits
w -- word :=32 bits

example
Code: [Select]
"FooBar->myvar
l0,1,2,3,4->myVar
Disp "I Say : myvar : myVar[1]

In the above example are tow more things:

1. myvar and myVar, shall we make a distinction between the tow? inother words should variables be case sensitive?
2. the ":" (without quotes) sign which would combine several variables and strings into one Disp command. (I originally wanted to use the "&" token but I thought that would be uneasy to access if we were to use a keypad similar to TI's)

Just say what you think about this...

edit in my example code it is seemingly impossible to include the ":" token in a string, this exmaple below however does so:
Code: [Select]
Disp "M says : ": : "Hello

which combines the strings "M says", ":" and "Hello".
maybe "&" is better after all...
