EDIT3: Now that I've managed to make this work, I'm thinking about launching the 3.0 OS. Someone at the start of the thread said there were some problems, but what were they exactly?
It doesn't load. I haven't looked beyond that to see how to make it work. I thought Ndless 2.1 was already available? 
OSLauncher fails to load when using brooom's build of ndless. I'm not sure why, but if it isn't intentional I'd assume it is just somehow not receiving/compiling the modified files.

Once you save the files what you could do is virtualize windows on linux using virtual box which will you to allow windows 'in' linux and thus all windows apps

As someone who did exactly what you suggest when I started using linux, I can say that native apps/wine is far better then virtualbox. As far as booting from USB/LiveCD goes, non-destructive dual-boot or wubi is much faster than USB/CD. Wubi is like booting a livecd off of your hard drive, dual-boot is the real deal except you can go back to windoze whenever you wish with all your data intact.

By opening your file browser, mounting the C partition, and "searching through the harddrive for any bad/useless/corrupted/etc files"

That's normal. I have tried getting the dual boot setup but I can't without shrinking the C:\partition and making a new one for Linux
Is there a problem doing that? As long as you don't kill the PC when the linux installer is re-sizing the partition it should work fine.

Can you just attach the hard drive to another computer backup all the data then do the format?
If he has a few free gigabytes, he can either dual-boot ubuntu or just use wubi. He'd have access to all the files on the windoze install from linux, and be able to boot into WinXP if he ever needed to.

I would love to just go over and install linux but my parents say I can't.
i would also be fine formatting it but my parents decided I need to save the information as much as I can.
How much free space is on the hard drive?

I've never had much success removing crapware from a windoze install, the only thing I can suggest is to format and start fresh. That said, the latest version of Ubuntu works really well... and MS Office (2007 and older) works great under wine.

Just tried 5 times to run the 2.1CAS OS from the 2.1 basic OS.

In a word, yes. Every time I used it, I got the short lines on the display. Alberthro was kind enough to give me a copy of ndless that he build (r387 somehow broke my build system, I can't compile anything now, and I don't have the time to fix it.) and that worked fine. I can check the IRC logs to find the link if you want.

Broom's build of ndless is the problem. Can you compile it yourself? Launching an OS is kinda buggy for me, it works about 5% of the time. EDIT: The success rate is higher if you use the nspire for a few minutes after it boots. If I reset the nspire and immediately try to load an OS it rarely works. (OS2.0.1 non-CAS on an OS2.0.1 non-CAS nspire.)

Also, I picked 7 of the 12 
You could make a useful program in assembly in those 7 systems? And anyway, I'm quite serious about my three choices. My ARM and 68k skills are a little rusty, but I'm not too bad at x86.
