General Discussion / Jazz

We all know what jazz is, right?

That music characterized by swing (sometimes) and lots of sevenths

Discuss your experiences with jazz here (favorite tunes, if you've been in jazz band, etc)

Why? I feel as if jazz is a lost genre of music, there is only 1 jazz station in Atlanta anymore, and most of the songs it plays are from the 70s and before.

I've been posting my poetry on ztrumpet's thread, which is technically his, so I'm creating my own for my works.

Here's a poem to kick off the thread:

Here's one!
There's one!
That's one!
I see one!

One is singular
One thing that's by itself
One is nonspecific
One of those computers on the shelf

One is evil
One must learn the power of the dark side
One is goodness
One must apologize because one lied

One is something
One that did the thing
One unspeakable thing
One thing that is spoken of anyway

THE GAME

In addition, an unusual number of blue lobsters have been seen exploding in the region of Québec City. We believe a Wi-Fi-powered device under the bed of the St. Lawrence River has been set to fire a colony of lobsters when an user reaches a postcount of 50000 on Omnimaga. We're contacting ZAP Québec, a provider of free Wi-Fi hotspots in the region, to identify the culprit.

There's something in the wifi!

Oh, I get it. I think I may add that now. It shouldn't be too hard!

Okay, so I gave all of your performances a listen. Here's my feedback;

Dapianokid: From a technical standpoint your playing seems very good. However, it comes off as a bit mechanical to me and seems to lack something. I can't quite put my finger on what though.

Pimath: Your playing style seems the most laid back. You were just chillin and bangin out that improv like nobody's business. Very cool. The marimba playing was very sweet as well.

epic7: My favorite. Although you were focused you seemed quite at ease. I enjoyed watching you play as well as listening to you. Very nice!

*Edit* Also, you guys should check out some of the stuff from Final Fantasy IX by composer Nobuo Uematsu. There are some really beautiful piano pieces on there and I'd love to hear you guys give them a try. :)

Examples:

Thanks for the feedback! I tend to model my playing after a more Bassie or Monk style (laid back and easy on the left hand), as opposed to a Chick Corea style (really complex, and really intense). It's good to know that people see me as I try to be.

I'm going to put up a ii7/V7/IM7 soon. Those are pretty fun.

I'd be happy to join, so long as I get well commented code to help me understand what's going on.

I came up with a clipped shading routine that I think you'll be able to use!

Well, that feature would be good even with two human players.

One does not simply interrupt a game of chess.

4600: Writing "omnimaga.org" as soon you see an address bar should be a reflex for you.
4602: Writing "omnimaga.org" is not a reflex for you, as you just hit "o" and hit enter to autocomplete.
4604: you know epic7's comment to be true

Is it set up so that the location of the pieces are in an appv? If it is then you could place 8 black and 8 white queens off of the screen, and then when a pawn reaches the other side, place the pawn off of the screen and replace it with one of the queens. I made a chess app and thats what I did.

Okay, person with a misleading name. Thank you for being so kind as to begin your reign on Omni with a necropost on the thread for my first ever major project.

Also: Why would I do that? It's a completely useless feature until I have the AI coded.
