Then get that hobby grade RC (if your parents will match you on the price)

http://www.hobbytown.com has great selection ->radio control ->cars ->electric ->Ready to Run Trucks and Truggys is a good place to start (I might have the mapping wrong, don't blame me :P )

Look at the specs on the manufacturer's site to compare.

Traxxas and HPI are good

Losi and Associated are the best, but cost a ton of $$$

Don't buy a Helion (I made that mistake)

10th scale Short Course trucks are the best for on/off road fun!

STAY ON ELECTRIC!!! NITRO (gas powered) TRUCKS BREAK A TON

With $320 (parents matching), I'd get a traxxas slash brushed edition (~$260): http://www.hobbytown.com/Shop/-Slash-1/10-2WD-Racing-Truck-RTR-with-Battery/ and a fast charger that works with traxxas connectors (scout around on that one)

Edit: http://www.hobbytown.com/Shop/-Slash-RTR-with-2-4-Radio-7-cell-NIMH-Battery-Charger/ is a better slash due to the 2.4 GHz radio
