TI Z80 / Ways To Spice up a Snake Game
« on: August 30, 2011, 01:24:27 am »
Yes, I know that there are tons of ASM snake games on ticalc.org.  Yes, I know that they are usually frowned upon.

One of my friends wanted me to make a snake game for the calculator.  I accepted her "challenge" and am now obligated to make an original snake game.  I am already doing crystal timed grayscale (like the one for Thepenguin77's chess game) if compatible and using a different type of timing for the other calcs.  I have also been thinking of some type of level editor, but I'm not really sure what else I can add.

If you have any ideas, please post them.

I have always liked Catcher in the Rye.  :P

I am not too sure what aspect of the book attracts me, but it is somehow my favorite book.

Casio Calculators / Re: How do 3d games work?

Wikipedia is unreliable *for certain topics*. As far as technical materials go, it's generally an excellent resource.
* ralphdspam changes the x86 architecture page.  >:D
(Just kidding)

I know that wikipedia is unreliable, but it is a good place to get started.  It barely even scrapes the top, but you can get more of a feel of 3d games.

ASM / Re: Stripes instead of flickerless

I guess what you're saying is it doesn't work if I have two buffers where pixels alternate in a checkboard pattern?
No, that should work if you time the picture properly.

EDIT: Oh, it's because no matter how fast or how slow you refresh the screen RAM, it displays 60 times a second.  I missed that part.
Yeah.  That might be the problem.

I will refrain from suggesting the Axe routine and give you a link to Thepenguin77's explanation.

You can't really apply the crystal timers or the extra ram, but it does have a good algorithm for creating the stripe patterns.  :)

Oh, also use horizontal auto increment instead of vertical auto increment.

speaking of pronunciations...
Is that English? o.O

A agree with the above posts.  All of the good programs would then be pushed up, and all of the bad programs (mostly quadratic solvers) would be pushed down.

I don't care if you rate down my quadratic program; it was supposed to be terrible.  Oh, and it would be funny if it was the most down-rated program on TIcalc.  :P

I'm glad there are actually uses for that command.  I like the idea of manipulating nibbles, but I don't like the fact that it modifies the source data.  Can you use it on ROM code without any problems?

Daddy, would you like som
lol, jk.  :P

It's pretty good, actually.  :)

Basically, right now I'm on a silly quest to make like 12.71 weird, stupid and rather retarded songs to rock the universe. Only 11.71 songs left! :)
How do you go about making the .71 song, exactly?

READ THIS, TI SPIES!

And it will take four hours to boot up the nspire.
I already notice the CX takes a friggin long while to boot actually. I think it takes 2x longer than my clickpad. X.x
They are focusing too much on blocking us than their main target -- students.  Students and teachers want a fast calculator that can boot up quickly and calculate expressions within fractions of a second.  Most students, even on the relatively open 83+ family, did not play games.  Those who do play games are tech savvy enough to find an exploit or use an already existing program.  TI is shooting themselves in the foot: they are making it harder for students to use and pushing hobbyists away from TI brand calculators.

Instead of opening command prompt like i thought it would, it repeatedly opened cmd.bat over and over again >:D

Lol.  I tried this, and my computer crashed.  :P

Do this instead (this isn't too good, either, but it is not as bad)
Spoiler For I will not be held responsible for this:
Code: [Select]
start cmd
exit
at least there will be only one cmd open at a time and you can use Ctrl+Alt+Del on a Vista or Win7 to log off or restart.
