TI-Nspire / Re: Hyena: a simple (Lua) GUI library for the TI-Nspire
« on: December 01, 2011, 10:47:51 am »
hoffa disappeared again...

this would be very useful for my project and maybe any other lua projects...

Anyway I've got to learn some object oriented programming... Which could be a problem when we are too much accustomed with TI-BASIC programming.

By now I'm trying to focus on doing something useful more than translating something which does not do anything (yet). When we start to do the localization work I'll start recruiting people into it.

I think it would be awesome! I just have to talk with wyldckat about it, but it should be ok (maybe someday he creates an account in omnimaga).

Another program I am used to hear of is ME Pro (cuz I'm taking mechanical engineering) so it could be another interesting one to bring to the nspire...

Lua / Re: Lua Q&A
« on: November 28, 2011, 05:07:06 pm »
Ok, thank you 3rik and jimbauwens. So what you're telling me is that I can call virtually any basic function except the commands I want to... Right?

I'll take a look at Levak's Sudoku then we'll see if I can do it.

Lua / Re: Lua Q&A

Is there any lua function to call nspire's BASIC commands?

It would ease my life a lot if I could use Text and Request commands...

This is amazing, I just wanted to help on something, if I could...

Are you going to wait for the next nspire OS to release ndless 3.1 publicly?

before buying the nspire I didn't knew it was very limited, compared to my TI-83... Before Lua appeared I missed draw commands and getKey because it really gave me the feel of control and power.... Anyway I do not regret my choice...

Yeah ofcourse, I think it depends what you want to do with it :)

I just want to take my mechanical engineering course, any advice? xD

Miscellaneous / Re: Why did you learn how to program?
« on: November 21, 2011, 02:31:42 pm »
I started programming when I was about 14 years old and received an old 486 laptop with MSDOS 5.1 into in and broken diskette reader which wasn't standard so I never could put or take nothing from it neither change it with another one since it was not built for ages.

So as I wanted to give some use to that computer and that version of MSDOS came with QBasic pre-installed I started making some codding on that, at first some silly calculator and then a mastermind-like game which was my first "serious" program and my first ever game.

Later when I got into high school and get my TI-83 which was my sister's I quickly learn't programming TI-BASIC and made my unique versions of quadratic root solvers and tic tac toe games. They were never released online because I didn't had the proper cable, but it had some sucess all over the class. It did not proliferated over the school because most of it had casios....

Before I bought my nspire I took some advice with some older colleagues taking my course. They all said to buy a Voyage 200 or a TI-89 because there are plenty of software to help the students while studying and while being tested. But I was fascinated with the nspire intrinsic capabilities like having much more memory and resolution. They told me that having a nspire was like having a sportscar without wheels.

In the end after hearing the pros of the 68k calcs and searching about the nspire I ended up buying the latest to dive in a new world and start to build up the collection of software I needed. That's why I joined the project asstermo which some of you may already have read about.

It would be funny to get TI an Casio calculators to communicate with each other in any way ;)

TI-Nspire / Re: TI-Nspire emulator
« on: November 18, 2011, 07:34:46 pm »
anyway I have the OS 3.0.2 with the boot2 1.4 this way I can downgrade easily if I want/need and I am using the last major OS version without major bugs but with 3D graphing and lua games :P

I won't risk putting boot2 v3.xxx on my nspire cuz I don't want to live with the impossibility to downgrade to OS 2.1 however it looks that ndless3 is near from being out. So maybe it is wiser to wait a while and try all Lua programs out there until it is out that to spend the time and effort on downgrading for nothing...
