Other / Ubuntu Phone OS
« on: January 04, 2013, 11:07:56 pm »
If you have not already seen Ubuntu the popular linux distribution is now releasing a mobile version. You can find information about it here http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/phone . The main idea that revolutionizes this OS over other mobile OSes is that it seeks to allow people to use a phone as a desktop too if you dock it. It is supposed to transfer over to the standard unity desktop if you plug it into a monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Another thing they have that android(the other linux mobile OS) does not is that they allow easy running of native programs instead of trying to hack it in like android makes you do. They have announced that they are trying to get hardware partners, but I do not believe that they have found any yet. I personally would like to see how this works on a modern phone. If there is a port I'll load it onto my MetroPCS Galaxy SIII. I probably will not keep it, but I think it is at least worth trying.

Independent Research

What's Independent Research?
At least at my school it is where you research a topic and create some kind of presentation on it for the end of the year working with a teacher of the subject.

I'm taking AP Computer Science.
I think I'm the only freshman who's in it :P
I would have been in that, but my school doesn't offer it till next year.
I'm in AP Calculus BC and AP Physics C

I haven't stopped I actually wrote a small program in python just the other day. I just haven't been doing much calc stuff and I'm focusing most of my time on learning more in math and science.

I'd think with nlaunch you could trace the os and find where it launches them from then you could overwrite that with your own code to create your own versions. Not sure how possible that is though

I haven't done anything with it since I got back. I haven't really done much coding overall. If there are any problems or requests I'll probably look into it but I make no promises for now

I will probably install CM10.1 to try it out as soon as they release a flashable tar to get back to stock. I'll probably just end up at CM10 until 10.1 becomes stable.
I got MiniCM7Pro, which is CM for xperia X10 mini pro, and al i can say is that CM rocks :)
I used CM on my Backflip a while back and used ParanoidAndroid which I believe is based off of CM on my SII(Which got stolen :( ). I love CM's customizations and feel most of the time

I'm learning to play it now

EDIT: @Nicco I like some of the features of stock like the auto-wifi finder, but I would also like Jelly Bean. I also am worried about this because I don't want to brick my $400 phone.
