Miscellaneous / Re: Post your desktop
« on: December 02, 2012, 01:43:43 pm »
I can barely stand to have more then 5 things on my desktop. I constantly am tossing them into folders to reduce clutter

you also want functions nice looking input(if for mass market) and the ability to have parentheses
EDIT:
I could maybe also help with that, I have some C++ knownledge. What graphics library will we use?
We'd be using qt for most graphics. At least I think thats the consensus right now

Site Feedback and Questions / Re: Omnimaga YouTube channel (OmnimagaTV)

I think it should be the person making the videos job to make things acceptable to channel standards. If that includes adding an intro and endcard then they should do it themselves. There is no point in giving the admins more work to do.

I think thats reasonable. I also think omni admins should have the password if its an official channel.

Right now anyone can upload a video for admins(who will need to get the password from me for pulling the videos) to approve. I don't think the problem is with people not being able to upload but rather who runs the channel.

Math and Science / Unique Representation of Cube Configurations
« on: November 30, 2012, 11:13:54 pm »
In my engineering class our teacher gave us a challenge to draw a sketch of every unique combination of 3,4,5, and 6 cubes. I spent about 30 minutes on that before I realized that I was making lots of duplicates. I wanted to find a way to tell if one would be unique without having to actually make it. I'm not good at rotating it in my head so I wanted something like a formula for uniqueness. I was thinking maybe something like the polynomials, sets, and numbers used to represent knots would work, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that.

The approaches I have tried are as follows:
Have a set of numbers that just contains how many cubes it touches
Have a set of ordered pairs/trios/etc that are at junctions that say how far it goes in each direction
Have a sets of ordered pairs like above just group them with a number that says what the shortest straight line distance between the junctions are.

I saw that all of these failed. How else could I do this and would a representation allow me to generate all possible cubes without brute forcing it.

I agree with the playllists idea. We should have a playlist for each series and then maybe some miscellaneous videos to make it look like we aren't just playlists. I also like DJ's idea of having a tab for the recent additions to the channel

It would probably be better to have a separate show on the channel for that then a separate channel. Theres no point in splitting up the audience imo.

It looks a lot like a CX imo. The screen is a lot longer though.

Block Dude isn't one of Omnimaga's project though. What about one of the older games from the COT instead?
I agree that one of those would be cool to see, but blockdude is a well established game that most people know of. It is more likely to generate interest imo. Though some other games may do just as well

Additionally, I could do a series where I speedrun games :D I know a technique that allows you to do it pretty easily in wabbit, and it could be pretty cool to watch, especially games that involve physics and such.  It could be half tutorial half speedrun!

Also, I am in favor of using Wabbit for all of our screenshot needs.  I think it would look a ton more professional than just recording our calculators, plus it would allow more people on omni to get out quality video, not just the ones with cameras.
Oh, I also thought of something that would be cool, but lame; maybe a video of which one of us can complete blockdude in the shortest time.
Hm... Maybe that would be cool
Have like 4 of us each record a speedrun in wabbit and arrange the 4 screens into one video having them play simultaneously.
I think that would be a great intro video though I couldn't do it. I'm slow at blockdude
