UberGraphX / Re: UberGraphX - Ubercalculator
« on: June 27, 2011, 10:38:57 pm »
Hey everyone, sorry for not posting any updates the past month. Because I've been busy working on several projects and lack funding, I haven't really made much progress (was hoping to get some boards built by now). Hopefully, no one thought the project was dead. :)

I currently (as of now) don't have the capital to finance the UberGraphX project and some of you were disappointed that I wouldn't be working on the Cortex A8 design anymore, so I came up with this plan. The past couple of weeks, I've been working on a design of a graphing calculator that's comparable to the TI-nSpire CX and Casio Prizm (but with some cooler features ;D). I'm planning on releasing the first drafts of the schematics and CAD files for this design sometime this week. All the hardware and software will be open, so anyone can help along and provide suggestions. The plan is to use the profits from selling assembled versions of this graphing calculator to finance further development of the UberGraphX (Cortex A8 variant).

This new design is nowhere as powerful as the UberGraphX. Instead it's aimed as a cheaper and open source/hardware alternative to current mainstream calculators such as the TI-nSpire CX and Casio Prizm. The project will be formally announced sometime this week with more details.
What do you intend the price on this to be and how will you get sales?

News / Re: Website hacking attempt?
« on: June 27, 2011, 10:37:18 pm »
Well, glad to see it was resolved at least.  On the off chance that someone did ever hack us, we could use our combined calculator power to DDOS them!

Glad to see that everything is okay now.

I bet 500 calculators could easially generate 100 packets a second to DDoS someone with.
That would be scary as hell if you could get all of the community calcs trying to DDoS one site

So the boot code also checks that it's actually TIOS it's running instead of a third-party OS.  (hence signing keys?)  Also it limits TIOS.
Now that it's editable.. ;D

It doesn't check if the TI-OS is running -- it runs the TI-OS. Think of the TI-OS as one big program that gets run from the boot code. Even when your calculator "turns off," the TI-OS is still running (that's why it still uses power, and that's why you can't remove all five batteries without resetting RAM). When your calc crashes, it goes back to the boot code to check if there's an OS and start it up.
So turning the calc off is more like putting it into standby mode right?

Yep no control by TI over the calculator >:)

IT appears it is a program that actually runs the calculator. The OS has to go through it I think. It runs pretty much everything I think

Call me a n00b, but what's the function of the existing boot code?
I believe it is the code for loading the OS(guess)

TI has essentially no legal case in this situation. Even if they wanted to go after BrandonW or thePenguin (which I doubt they do), they can't make a case against this. For once, the law is actually in our favor here because this hack allows us to actually remove all copyrighted code from the device. Previously, TI could have made a [tenuous] case against all 3rd party OSes because the boot code was still present.

so this code has effectively taken out TI's ability to bring lawsuits against us for 84+/84+SE programs/OS's

Also, for anyone who is interested, I looked stuff up and figured out how planes can fly upside down. They are tilted pointing up (while upside down, from and observer's perspective) that the leading edge is higher than the trailing edge, which generates lift, though inefficiently compared to an airfoil.
Yay I can finally understand it

So we can boot Windows Vista now! :D
why would you want to do that. Lets go with Damn Small Linux(smallest current OS I know)

I think from what they said that this allows anything you could possibly do. The hardware is completely open now

Yes, we have three genders: Der/Die/Das Wink
This is one of the reasons why non-german people often find german difficult.
If not everyone understands it:

Deutsch:
Ja, wir haben drei Artikel: Der/Die/Das

English:
Yes, we have three genders: The/The/The

I am so good at English!!  ;)
lol, yeah it seems English is one of the few languages without the different gender the's

Thank you TI for all those weird holes you seem to leave everywhere ;D
Thank god for TI's bad programming
