Sounds great ;D

Some updates: I started coding the main menu and the Character Setup menu, making them with a DoorsCS-like GUI. I'm thinking about even adding a mouse!
I thought you already make a DoorsCS-like GUI.

I've been playing this for a couple days.  It's awesome! (I'm currently at level 78).

Heh, yea. Runescape really is like that. I've quit and come back countless times.
After multiple failed attempts at quitting I finally had to resort to getting all my accounts banned (including a free account with everything over level 80, which equates to playing 24/7 for months on end).

As a courtesy for all the recovering RSers here (I finally know I'm not alone!), please never mention that 'game' again :)

This isn't that funny at all...
You have to have a sufficiently disturbed mind to understand.  Be thankful you didn't burst out laughing ;)

I'm a little bit confused.  Is this still for LOTR?  In your post at UTI (a few days ago) you called it "Unnamed rpg", but you stuck that new screenie in the thread for LOTR.

where is level five anyways?!?!? well on another topic, i discovered the codes for the majority of the tile mapper, and that it is a list->matrix thing with lists as columns.
Level 5 had lots of enemies (or the potential for them with the cloner thing) so I didn't add it into the demo since I'm not sure if I'll be adding in many enemies (but I am sure I won't add in the cloner, at least for enemies).

I had written an assembly program for storing to the matrix, but since I started using fractional parts in the matrix that program was made useless.

They do, on casio line...IMO, just take out tips.

They are not too helpful, take up space, and will only slow down development on the main engine/program ;)
I don't have the attention span to switch calculators and learn a new language (or the money to buy one) :P.  Actually, I'm completely finished programming the tips mechanism.  The only extra work that will have to be done is add the text when there's a level with a tip in it.

Plus, the tips actually can be useful.  One of the most obvious is the level that the tip tells you the order/direction needed to get to the exit.  Some things (like how traps work, that teleports are directional, items can be hidden under blocks, etc...) are hard to figure out without some help.

Yeah it does mean he can only go in circles.
It doesn't necessarily have to be a closed path.  All you would have to do in that case is define some behavior for when a person hits an edge of the screen (e.g. when they hit the bottom edge have them continue on their path, but replace movement down with up and vice-versa).

Glad to see this project is alive again (or will be alive again ;D)

for those of you unfamiliar, runescapes development system builds your character around how you play, but with a grind factor.
I believe "a grind factor" is a bit of an understatement :o

It looks good :)

The path is in the matrix the fraction part of the matrix decides which way he should move therefore no increase in size.
Smart idea ;D But does that mean he's limited to a 9-step pattern? (Although it doesn't mean the position repeats after 9 steps).

TI Z80 / Chips challenge Tile names
« on: April 05, 2009, 09:26:06 pm »
For those of you who have played the demo or read the readme, you've probably noticed that some of the tile names are either a color or just really strange.  Since I still can't think of better names, I'm in need of some help.

Here's a list of the tiles I need help on (but if you can think of better names for the other tiles don't hesitate to add them!):
1) Movable blocks
2) Green switches (they toggle the green walls on/off)
3) Green blocks (either on/off depending on state of green switch)
4) Blue blocks.  They will turn into walls or floor when you walk on them (I called them 'maybe' blocks)
5) The guy (He takes your boots when you walk on him)
6) The squares that will turn into a wall after you walk on it (you only have one chance to walk over, I called them 'big blob' since that's what it looks like before you walk on it)
7) Thin-walled tiles.  They have thin walls on one or two sides that prevent you from walking on/off in that direction (e.g. if there's a wall on the bottom, you can walk on/off from left/right, walk off from the top but not enter while moving up).
8) The hint blocks.  I can't choose between 'hint', '?', 'help', or 'tip'.

(If only calcs had color...)

Thanks :)

My only suggestion would be to remove the references about colors, such as "blue blocks" or "green blocks", because there are no color on the 83+/84+ :P
So true.  I just haven't been able to think of better names yet.

Only because you were the only site with a prank.
On UTI they're appending those random statements enclosed in * marks, but Omnimaga's is still the best.
