Miscellaneous / Weird File Names
« on: October 08, 2010, 10:43:59 pm »
Alright, so I've been noticing lately that my C:\ drive contains a large number of very oddly named files, and it seems like it keeps getting more and more of them every couple of days. I am almost positive that it is not a virus (Norton would detect it if it was, and my computer is acting normally). Does anybody have any insight on what this might be? Also, I'm running Windows Vista 64 bit SP2.

My favorite comic!

Question 1: Do you know the comic where Calvin keeps trying to fill a water balloon and it backfires on him? (Such as bursting, or squiritng when he tries to tie a knot)

Question 2: I believe the Hobbes is like the toys from Toy Story--imo, he chooses to take solid form around other people, and moves when he's only around Calvin.  Despite what the author intended, what's your opinion?
1. Yep. Actually, I've read every single comic strip. (I own the treasuries ;D)

Because I want to read that one.  Could you upload it somehow?
sorry... I couldn't find it :(
(my books are kind of beat up, and are missing some pages)

2. I personally think that Hobbes doesn't come to life around Calvin, but rather it is a bit of an exaggeration on how Calvin imagines Hobbes, since there are many instances in which Calvin is talking to Hobbes seeing him as a real tiger, while his parents just see him playing with his stuffed animal.

You know, this DOES really suck, though I can't say it isn't unlike Texas Instruments to pull this. However, we could use it to our advantage with OTcalc. If a ti-NSpire is too complicated for some students or even teachers, then perhaps it could be an inexpensive, easier to use alternative (the z80 or arm one, for that matter). That is assuming, however, that we do get them built. Nonetheless, I am upset that TI is doing this. I just wonder how schools will handle the change...

Thanks for the feedback everybody! I will now be attempting to put curves in the road. Also, do you think that I should put forks in the road that determine your path?

EDIT: oh, sorry I forgot to answer your question Builderboy. Yes, I think it probably will be how hills will look in the final version, unless I am able to figure out something that looks better.

update:
I've got some form of hills working, which in the demo are being altered in height by the Alpha and 2nd keys. I've also as of now put in a gray background, which I will eventually change into clouds or something like that. There are a bit of speed issues so it's in 15mhz right now. Also, I put pixels along the side of the road because... well because they looked cool.

It would probably be possible but have some speed issues.
On another note, is there a good way to convert 3 level grayscale sprites to hex code (I decided that four-level would be too slow)? I tried Runner112's (which was really nice :D), but writing out the hex code got a bit tedious.

It doesn't look like this thing is going anywhere as of now. I'll try looking into some other solutions. Again, though, it doesn't affect the usability of it at all.

Well, I was able to fade it a little using the penny and the rubbing alcohol, but alas it is still there. Oh well, it's not very large at all, but just has a tendency to drag my eyes away from the action occurring on the screen, which can be a bit bothersome.

I've thought about this, and actually gone further. I thought that it would be totally enclosing in which you could use your senses and totally interact with the world around with you. Then I realized that I was just thinking about the Matrix.

Oh, well I actually did try that, but it did not look very good. The rest of the road appeared separated from that one point on the horizon, if you get what I'm saying.
