News / Re: Calc sites bashing... by TI???
« on: May 06, 2011, 08:11:11 pm »
In a way I agree with Ashbad that I'm glad Casio made many mistakes in their OS and left out many features (in addition to easy coding).
1. No 84+ emulator, well that's kinda expected because they're not TI. The thing is on the nspire which has the 84+ emulator, but lacks many ports, is missing undocumented instructions, and is slower than the 84+, there is little incentive to make a new one because the current one seems mostly sufficient. But now on the Prizm we don't already have an emu so we now have the opportunity to make a near perfect one.

2. No CAS. Well I still expect Casio to eventually make a CAS version of the Prizm, but if they don't we can still make a better one :)

3. Slow BASIC language. When I say slow I mean like 6 hours to fill the screen using only pxl-on. It also has bugs too when drawing special text. But the good thing is that it has far more commands than 84+ BASIC and these are useful commands such as break and do while. Also a large set of string based commands too. So what do we do? Make a new BASIC interpreter! ;D

4. Not a bug, but great BASIC IDE. What it lets you do is insert lines, lets you rename files, lets you lock files, and gives you easy access to a large set of special characters. To get the best use of this why not make an Axe port?

5. No 3D graphs. need I say more

6. Yes I will say more. Lua -END MESSAGE-

Welcome aboard. The 40 post limit is for adding files to our download section, you can still make a topic and add an attachment, but there might still be a post limit there too, but its something really small. Otherwise great to have you here and I second turiqwalrus on checking out HotDog's asm tutorial.

Casio Calculators / Re: Icon Design Guidelines
« on: May 05, 2011, 10:12:53 pm »
So far the best example of a program following these guidelines has been Merthsoft's minesweeper. Though the background for the selected sprite is different, it is barely noticeable. Perhaps the mkeg3a program could automatically add the the selected sprite in order to simply icon design.

There is no Portal for PS3
No you can get the Orange Box for the PS3. Yes it was originally for the PC, but they've ported it now.

I think I have heard of this before. So I'll need to keep this in mind on the Prizm's 84+ emulator project. To do so the emu would first have to test which cable type is connected then set whether an inverse of data needs to be done or not.

Infamous is my all time favorite

I want Portal 2 so bad, though. I haven't even played Portal!
Don't get portal 2 if you haven't played portal yet!! Not only will there be many missing plot holes, but portal 2 spends much less time introducing you to maneuvers and such and is much more difficult.

Not only are both examples really cool, but are also the first ever third party apps to go beyond the standard 8 color palette. This now demonstrates the photo realistic qualities that are achievable on the Prizm. As we continue to document more and more the better demo programs we've been able to create. I've been working on my own tunnel game lately that uses a 16 bit color sprite and should be finished by this weekend.

Casio Calculators / Re: GCC help
« on: May 02, 2011, 07:32:01 pm »
So this is the same source, but one assembled with the Renesas compiler and one with GCC. And it is only the Renesas version that works now. So could I see a pre-assembled copy of that code from each compiler, that way I can view the hex to see how it is different.

News / Re: CGPN: April 2011 newsletter available
« on: May 02, 2011, 02:37:51 am »
Now that the month of April has ended I would like to post some stats. First off was that we almost got 1 million views this month, but we're short at 980175  :P But I guarantee you all next month we have many great things coming up and we'll be sure to make that benchmark. We also need to hold onto our streak of over 10,000 posts per month too. We were down in the 11,000 range this month, but not as close as March when we got 10,044 posts. In good news is that our new member count is now down at 132 for April and is finally not over 200 anymore. If you remember this surge of new users was from nDOOM, so the good thing is that this is cooling off now. And those people on hardcore gaming websites always have short attention spans anyways.  ;)

So does this auto archive stuff in ram for you when you begin a program. That would be very useful for those large programs and stuff and also pretty cool that the code restriction can be worked around.

DJ_O brings up a good point there. With languages like BASIC and Game Maker you don't often have the freedom and speed normally found in asm and C. What you do have is the ability to make a quality game in a short amount time. I do consider myself primarily an asm coder, but for an entire year I coded only in TI-BASIC when I got my first calc. During that time I honored the BASIC legends of the time and was fascinated by their complex optimizations that allowed them to do so much in such a restricted language. I never took online tutorials for BASIC, but instead preferred to learn by other's source. For example one trick I remember learning was how to do a wide text font featured in Portal. And really the most important thing is the end result and not the language.

So I'm not the only one who keeps his watch synchronized to the second. Does anyone else like to impress their classmates by counting down the bell at the end of class and "magically" have the bell ring when you say zero?
