F-Zero X Hyper Speed Circuits
« on: October 11, 2009, 09:30:29 pm »
A year ago, I worked on some custom F-Zero X tracks. For those who don't remember, the Nintendo 64 had an add-on in Japan called the 64DD and F-Zero X Expansion Kit eventually came out too, allowing you to make your own tracks. However, these things are super rare and expensive. However, on the internet, here's F-Zero Execution Project (FZEP), which lets you make F-Zero X tracks and export them into ROMs. It's friggin hard to use because of the incompatibility problems that can occur if you do your tracks wrong, but it was still fun to mess around sometimes.

For those who don't mind learning how to actually put these tracks in a ROM using FZEP or just want to mess around with them, I uploaded them for your pleasure.

These tracks are special in a particular way: like Baphemetis custom tracks, my tracks were designed for use with the action replay/game shark code that makes your car go at 2000 Km/h instead of the usual 800 Km/h. That speed code comes with most versions of Project 64 and can also be found on cheat sites. The code is called Super Ultimate Mega Fast. The circuits I made are extremly hard, and you will have to retry and retry many times for sure. Unlike Baphemetis, I did not hack codes into the ROM, and his ROM was made so turning is much faster, which isn't the case of my tracks, which are to be inserted in a clean google-searched F-Zero file which we won't provide. You can also fly through entire tracks with that code, altough this might be hard to do with mine. Anyway here they are below and I included videos of most of them:

Hi Speed Madness

Halo

Land Of Omnimaga

I Believe I Can Fly

(Note: I recommend using the infinite shield code too, else, it is impossible)

EDIT: Added video for 4th track

Ok, I can no longer find the 4th track. I believe it was patched alone on a ROM somewhere. I will try to find it eventually. But for now I released an IPS patch containing all 3 first tracks. It's avaliable in the downloads section and you just need to apply it to a F-Zero X (U) ROM. Just google for one and do not post any links here if you find any.

I also made some animated screenshots of them using CalcCapture. They're black and white and crappy quality but that's because I tried to keep file size as small as possible for people with slow connections.

I love the screenies, but how did you do them?  I thought calc capture was only for calc stuff.  How do you make it work on other things?
The screenies look great in black and white. ;D

In CalcCapture you can change the settings at the top to capture from more windows than VTI ones. This is how some people managed to capture from Flash Debugger before PTI/WabbitEmu/Windows TilEm came out and you can set it to capture from any other window as well, providing its title doesn't constantly change like PindurTI. It produce terrible color, though, so it's best to use grayscale

CalcCapture can sometimes break. Usually you have to delete all files then redownload it again and it fixes it. However I'm not sure if it works on anything higher than XP
