"From Omnimaga" in Omni-member programs?
« on: July 24, 2010, 10:11:02 pm »
Do you guys think it's a good idea to add "from the Omnimaga Community" or something similar to readme's or descriptions on programs from Omnimaga members?  This could gain us new members. :)

EDit:  Is this in the right section? ???

I would've personally put it in Miscellaneous or calc-related, but it's up to the admins, not me ;D
I'm not sure if it's necessary, we already have an active community, but I'm not sure if that counts as advertising, which isn't allowed x.x
I'll think about it and vote later.

I don't really think it's advertising since it's like saying you made it, but instead you say a member of Omnimaga made it as well.  idk, but seeing as so many other programs have something similar, I just thought we should to.  ;)
Or we could put in the readme, if you have any problems, please report at Omnimaga.org.

Hang on.. I'm going to add that option.

I voted for that one, though I think you should add a Netham version of it too :P

lol ok.  XD
Technically, everyone can do whatever, but this is the only way I could tell everyone about it.  And I don't know if I should, so my decision will likely be influenced by the results.

Personally, I've always put a reference to Omnimaga in all my programs including the readme.
Usually on the title screens, credits, etc.

I see nothing wrong with it and no one has said anything about it. (Then again, I was staff forever.)

I don't see this as advertising, I see it more as a "this was made with help from the community"/"An Omnimaga Production". Not blatant advertising, just saying you made it "at" Omni.

I think its a good idea. Its not advertising, and would get more members.
I'm all for including "Netham45 is a Lobster", though :D

No, we can't change votes on this poll :(
As for the advertising, yeah, I guess everyone else is right. So, change my vote to the "Yes, but lobster" option, or better modify the poll to allow changes.
Will include in next program! (Though only in the README, I wouldn't actually insert it in the program :P)

I voted yes (but Netham45 is a lobster).

I would definitely mention Omnimaga in my programs' readmes, not only as where it was developed but as a place to contact me at.

The userbars in my sig are links embedded links.

And in addition to calculator (and Python!) stuff, I mod Civilization 4 (frequently with Python).

Hmmm, I think that in readme's it would always be fine to have some mention on Omni in it or something. Like a "A Omnimaga Production" or something like that (probably something we as a community would agree on) and then for in game stuff I would reserve that for projects that are bigger or something. Hopefully that makes some sense.

I voted for that one, though I think you should add a Netham version of it too :P

We need a Netham45 version of everything :P

No, but Netham45 is a lobster. Period. It's going to be up to each individual to decide. I personally don't see it as a necessity, but I'd probably mention Omnimaga in the "Thanks" section of my readme files.
