Title: 500 Errors
Post by: SirCmpwn on September 20, 2010, 06:49:28 pm
These are really getting annoying.  I think we may want to look into a hosting change.

Yeah I have been planning it for a while already. I'll have to wait a day where Juju, Alberthrocks or another trustworthy person with VPS knowledge is around, though. The initial plan for October was to move to Surpasshosting, but I heard their limitations aren't much better than 1and1 (PHP-wise) and it seems similar for most other shared hostings. So it looks like I'll have to look for a more difficult but more reliable solution.

As you could read in the two previous news articles regarding posting records, I mentionned about hosting move anyway. Also with no anti-spam, we get some weird posts lately.

I'll also try to contact 1and1 to see if they couldn't do something. I don't know if they're quick on blaming the user, though...

I'Ll move this to help/feedback because I fear someone might post a duplicate topic

Funny thing, actually - I got a 500 error when I clicked on the link to this page!  :)  (or is  :P more appropriate emote?)

Normally those errors are due to bad .htaccess files or broken PHP scripts/server misconfig, but they are currently intermittent. If one of my script had issues, it would never work at all. Right now we get errors every few second, randomly, and it gets worse and worse with the time.

Has anyone gotten any 500 Internal Errors today so far? Tell me if you get any within the next day or two.

Its been a few weeks since ive gotten a 500 error, but my phone doesnt seem to like to load pages here very well. I have to retry links a few times on my phone usually. I dont get errors, it just doesnt load.  ???

On a computer, though, it works fine.

Ok. I guess I'll need to wait a bit more to see, then.

Right now I noticed yesterday there was a much lower-than-usual amount of traffic on the site, though. Are people starting full of exams/getting busier with school? It might be harder to check if 500 errors got less bad now if the October lull already starts x.x

Yeah I noticed. I've contacted 1and1 to let them know the switch to PHP5 did not solve my issue.
