Cage Matches
« on: August 29, 2010, 06:32:29 pm »
I would like to host a series of "cage matches" after the contest ends. This would be between two programmers and the prize would be nothing more than a monetary userbar, but fame and prestige to the winners of said matches.

The participants would have a week to program a game of random choosing.
All code must be sandboxed. (That means no preexisting code can be used.)

All other technicalities would be handled by me. And you guys would determine the final winner by voting. Only when there is a tie would a panel of judges be necessary.

Comments?

Sounds cool! Sure. I might not be able to participate at first, but maybe later.

The language is randomized too.

Pure BASIC, Hybrid BASIC, and Axe will be the open to the public ones.
ASM will require one to pass a small licensing test in order to level the playing field. It wouldn't be cool if someone like me (ASM noob) was pitted against someone like Hot_Dog.

Spoiler For Nostalgia:
My big personal project, an original RPG about dimensional travel and a few heroes tasked with saving the world.
Coding-wise, on hold, but I am re-working the story.

Spoiler For Finale's Super Insane Tunnel Pack of Doom:
I will be combining Blur and Collision Course into a single gamepack. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia Origins: Sky's Story:
Prequel to Nostalgia. On hold, especially while the story is re-worked.

WONDERFUL! i am so in(mebbe a short time limit will be enough to motivate me, as the contest seems not to have worked[im still procrastinating and at this point there's no way im making something playable]). anyways, good luck to all you other peeps. i will inevitably win, but let's make it a close match, shall we?

It will probably depend of the success of the current contest (which got zero entry submission so far, btw, despite ending in 2 weeks. Thanks to RAM clears, I guess...). If we can't get a single entry or if we only get one or two when we offer prizes and give 3 months to make a game of any genre, I don't see how a contest limited to specific genres and only giving a week or so with no money prizes will be more successful.

Feel free to setup such contest, though. Sadly, I doubt I will have time to contribute much, since I am not done with the site updates and I'Ll be busier at work and IRL. When you start, you should probably post a news about it (warn me first)

sounds like a plan! but who is gonna decide who is the winner? can we all vote for the winner in his topic? or will there be some kinda jury?
everytime that I was down, you would always come around, and get my feedback on the ground. (modified part from 'Seasons in the sun')

No matter how many errors are bothering you, always try to stay rel-Axe!

The HoMM project will be resumed as soon Axe 1.0.0 will be released!

As for voting you could leave it to the community to vote for which they think is better or something.
