Deletion of PTTKiller topics
« on: June 08, 2012, 01:46:31 am »
Since I was offline when both topics about PTTKiller were deleted, I'd like to get an explanation from one of the managers (or whoever did it) why this had to be done (there would've been several other ways of "solving" this, for example removing the attachments, deleting specific posts or locking it and deleting the complete topic is definitely the worst of them in my opinion, but maybe I'm wrong)

I don't want to discuss here, I just want to get a statement from one of the managers.

the topics weren't deleted; they were just moved to a subforum where they are not accessible to others. the attachments are definitely not going to be returned, as we do cannot condone academic dishonesty, but the topics may or may not be returned.

Will the topic content themselves be re-instated? I remember there was a policy of not deleting posts even if they are rude, except lines of text, links and files explaining how to or allowing cheating or illegal content, but maybe that has changed recently?

My suggestion (although it's up to the new administration) would be to screen the topic so that any attachment or text explaining how to cheat gets edited out, and that if there is any offensive comments that breaks the rules, that if the author of those posts don't want to tarnish his reputation among members that might see it, then they are free to edit or delete them themselves. Of course now they're spared from negative ratings though so they don't have to worry about their total post rating dropping every month like before.

Back in 2008 I instated that policy so that while free speech is limited here, what you post won't get censored and you only face the consequences if any. But of course if that's different now then to me it's OK since the active staff are doing what they feel that is the best for Omnimaga.

Ah I see, but again maybe it's temporary since Lionel wanted to retrieve replies to his post a few minutes ago.

What I know (so far) is that they gotremoved not (mainly?) because of the attachments, but because of the sole and clearly claimed cheating purposes, which netham said was against the rules of Omni.

returning them was only in question because the entire subject matter of both topics was cheating on tests. they have been returned now, though.

Ah ok. Well so far there doesN't seems to be much discussion explaining how to cheat nor deliberately encouraging it aside from maybe the first posts, so I guess it should be safe. Hopefully however the moderation of those topics sends a message to members registering on the forums to ask how to run OSLauncher because they'll fail their test tomorrow. :)

You guys should update the rules to impose a few limits, at least we'll know what to expect next time.

Yeah the rules page, especially the dutch, french and portuguese ones, were very outdated the last time I checked. X.x
