I thought trolls spawned from 4 chan.  JK.  but kinda seriously... :/

My first 10 posts on Omnimaga were so bad that I should have been banned from every calc site on earth.  Luckily DJ forgave me... and look where I am now :)

Speaking as a member who has barely any posts, I think that we mainly join just for a single question about programming, and otherwise just lurk as yeongJIN_COOL said. I personally really don't HAVE much to contribute yet, and mainly soak up little programing tips and tidbits fro surviving math class.

I have an idea. Maybe they like the site and were lurkers for a while. But they couldn't read the randomness related sections. So then they made an account so that they could.

I mean, TI Calculator Game Walkthroughs, Secrets & Glitches sounds interesting enough to sign up for.

Perhaps some of those 0-1 posters really haven'y checked out the site yet. I mean, once I found this site I joined because, you know, I like calcs and I am pretty good at BASIC. So I said, what the heck. Well I didn't really post a thing until several months later when I sort've "refound" the site, been pretty active (mostly in randomness) ever since.

Spoiler For IMPORTANT NEWS!:
Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...

I totally disagree with the first post. The large amount of members with low post count has nothing to do with the amount of trolls.

1) Our troll problem started about 1 month ago and originated from IRC.
2) A lot of people join calc sites to ask for help. These people will generally make 1-2 posts then go away. There's nothing wrong with that, our help sections are here for them.
3) A lot of people join calc sites, but they cannot find anything to contribute in the end, and eventually they lose interest, so these ppl got 0 posts, sometimes 1 in the intro section. It's normal.
4) Like cfxm and uberspire, some people are not big posters. This goes back to point 3, except they're interested in calc stuff. Not everyone is gonna post almost everywhere. Some people are busier too.
5) Some people are more IRC guys than forum guys, like Genolo or brooom. Unfortunately, this seems to be the group at risk lately.

If you go check UTI, Cemetech, TI-Freakware, MaxCoderz, etc, notice how every forum only have like half of their members above 0 posts. This is normal. Plus there could be bots that made it through filters years ago but never posted.

I don't think we should automatically label low posters as members at risk. Omni just went through bad luck and attracted a bunch of troublesome users at once and it will probably get through it fine. However right now to avoid problems the IRC channel had to be closed, since it attracted trolls.

jhgenius01 it is a common problem around forums. Actually RevSoft had about 600 members and once I cleaned out all the 0-1 posters, we dropped down to around 300.

A good majority of those 0 posters are most likely bots without the ability to post. No matter how advanced your bot detection system is, unless it is by invite only you arent going to stop bots from registering.

By the way, on several calc forums I got 0 posts. Espace-TI is an example. I just never had time to post there. It doesn't mean I'm a troll and that the forum is threatened by trolls.

I had 1-0 posts for a few months when I first registered here. I had not had much to contribute and didn't look around much. I just joined to be able to help/look at Ndless. When i looked around the site I found there were many other things and started becoming a more active member. I think the Math section was what really started me on being an active member
I currently don't do much, but I am a developer for a game you should totally try out called AssaultCube Reloaded download here https://assaultcuber.codeplex.com/

Yeah the math area seems to have kept a lot of people even more active. I would never have put one when this board started, since I wanted the focus to be mostly on calc games, but the board grew bigger so it cannot have an impact on the entire board theme and it can still increase activity. I think the fact that most calc programmers like maths kinda helped, though. (after all, when programming we do maths :P)

yeah maths is part of the programming. but a wide range of forums, including general forums means omnimaga isn't just restricted to calc games. you can talk in omnimaga about lots of things.

True, some other calc boards got plenty of off topic talk, like hardware and electronics or web dev. Some calc forums are exclusively dedicated to the site projects.

The following sentences are to be in no way construed as having anything to do with one another:
I think we were all trolls when we initially joined, perhaps simply because we didn't know any better.
I just noticed that Omnimaga has no Wikipedia page.
In other news, Frey continues kicking unprecedented levels of ass.
