Omnimaga Banner
« on: December 20, 2010, 09:47:23 am »

I was wondering, who made this banner?

This banner is really good! I was just looking closely at it and I was rickrolled! This logo is just perfect! This thread is to remind you of admiring and venerating this banner everytime you see it! I'm serious.

I believe DJ took many screens from his game and others games and put them together, shaded them, and then added the words and calcs.  ;)

Yup, DJ made that.  He did an excellent job on it. ;D

By the way, the thing on the far left is a wireframe Link made by Calc84 for the Nspire. :)

I'M glad you all like it. I planned to do such banner for months before actually doing it. I even grabbed some screenshots shortly before starting for later. My goal was to put calculators back into the banner and do like in the 2005 one, by putting plenty of screenshots in it. I then added some sprites, which some people may recognize, that wireframe Link from Calc84maniac 3D polygon engine (that he unfortunately lost) and one more calc. In the 2005 banner, all screenshots were from RPGs available for download on the site. And yeah, as you can notice, it includes some stuff like the rickroll in Illusiat 13 and a lobster. :P

EDIT: For the curious, here are the previous site banners:

April 9th 2004, September 20th 2004, February 1st 2005, May 12th 2005, December 9th 2005, April 11th 2006, August 25th 2008 and finally the current one, used since February 16th 2010.

That banner is quite an achievement, all that hard work, and it looks really nice. along with the background, it defines what omnimaga is, with its bluish theme.

To answer the one who was asking how long it took to create, I would say about 2-3 days, but that doesn't count the time I took to re-find all the needed screenshots, turn animated ones into still pics and create new ones. If I combine all the times I spent into gathering screenshots in one folder, I would say 2 weeks total.

Later I worked on a new forum theme to match the new banner and that took about 1 week I think X.x

Hence my frustration a while ago about that comment: http://ourl.ca/7224

...wow... That was a hard job. I think this theme will stay for a long time, because it's very good.

Yatzy, you should really shut up. The design on omnimaga.org is perfectly fine, the only thing not fine here is your attitude.

Omni and tibasicdav are COMPLETELY different types of sites — this helps people get started in calc programming, and then omni takes over; it's the most productive community that makes calc games ever made — and more than just BASIC ones. How about you grow a pair and then think twice before insulting a community whose newbiest n00bs are probably 10x better than you at programming.

:O

i doubt that type of speech will be appreciated over on BASIC-dev (or that Yatzy will ever read your reply, seeing how old that post of his was). however, it's not my site and thus not my place to judge

Hmm to be honest I think it is deserved for him, but I don't think implying that everyone on TI-BD are n00bs and the good programmers are on Omni is a fair thing to say. TI-BD has a lot of great programmers. I'm personally surprised that such post did not arrive sooner there, but it might be because Yatzy posts like twice a year so he may not even see the comment. I think Graphmastur even wanted to delete Yatzy comment completely before (since Graph is gmod)
