Omnimaga saving act
« on: November 08, 2012, 11:47:38 pm »
This is a act to save omnimaga. To get more people here, to stop the decrease in activity.
I thought about quite a few things what to do, i am already working on a ti basic tutorial on some other rather popular website and am (of cource) linking omnimaga.
I also thought of making some general omnimaga video to inform people what omnimaga is about.

I think _Nicco_ is making a stop-motion dis-assembling of a calculator.

Just think of anything and link omnimaga to it, we do everything, that way we could hopefully get more people here and increase our activity :D

The tutorial seemed quite nice so far. Another thing someone suggested back in 2009 or 2010 ({AP} I believe) was calc games reviews on Youtube, like IGN does. It would definitively take time for people to test games and also someone who don't mind talking on the mic (not me).

Of course we had a tiny boost in activity since last month but more would be better in long term (especially to go through slow summers).

The calc games review thing looks like a good idea : I released a sort of a trailer for my Jetpack 8x(+) game a few months ago, now it has 2300 views. It can be great for Omnimaga's reputation

Maybe another sort of tribute video? Kind of like the axe parser vid in 2010, but releases in every calc language.
(maybe it could be a quarterly/semi-annual thing? idk)

Well I could make the video itself, but DJ_O would have to create music.

I thought of making some sort of series like the Angry Video Game Nerd or its French counterpart the Joueur du Grenier, but with calcs. That would be pretty cool.

Well I could make the video itself, but DJ_O would have to create music.

Maybe you could re-use some of my old tracks as well? Just make sure to not make the sound too loud, though.

Also reviews would have to be based on calc standards. Eg not going and saying Joltima is absolutely worthless because it lacks grayscale and scrolls every 2 pixel instead of 1 . We have to remember that each platform has their own limitations and if any review is negative it should at least point out legit flaws.

There could be a monthly calculator test as well.

Well if you send me the calculator I'd be happy to test it, lol.

As for tracks, you would be the best one to choose what tracks I could use since I obviously do not know what's in every track and thus do not know which tracks fit best.

What do you mean by linking? (By the way I totally discourage anyone from ever doing any private message-based advertising on other calc sites or even blatant public advertising. That is bad netiquette and can even backfire)

Well, linking at the end of a relevant article or tutorial is pretty encouraged, but you would not want to spam the link where it's unneeded (such as what DJ said).

I wonder, would it be good or possible to create a YouTube channel for all of the videos.
Currently, if somebody finds a calculator video on YouTube, they might subscribe and watch the other videos on that channel.
But they probably won’t find all of the other great calculator videos on YouTube.
So if all the videos were on one channel, and there are about one new one ever couple of days, but one each channel maybe every couple of weeks, any subscribers would get to see every video, instead of having to search for the different channels.

You would have to get everybody who creates videos about calculator related things in on it. The main issue is that a lot of people who make the vidoes are also members/staff of other sites. They would be unlikely to want to put their vidoes on a channel advertising our site and not theirs. Also, some people can earn money off of youtube, so they would want to put their videos on their own channel and maximize their income.
