Omnimaga YouTube channel (OmnimagaTV)
« on: November 18, 2012, 03:01:15 pm »
I have just created a YouTube channel for Omnimaga. I will review calculator and computer games and programs posted on Omnimaga on this channel. I will give the password probably to big game developers, Omni staff, and anyone else who genuinely wants to help (and maybe a certain post limit). This channel is currently empty, but once it actually has videos, you can access it here: http://www.youtube.com/user/OmnimagaTV.

So far, the shows that will be on this channel are:
-Game and Program Reviews and Tutorials (Spyro543)
-Game Speedruns and Tutorials (Builderboy)
-Hardware Instruction Videos (Keoni29)
These aren't necessarily the titles of the series's, the series creator can come up with the title of it.

If you can use WabbitEmu, record your videos with that. If you cannot use Wabbit, just record your calculator with a camera.

Wasn't Omnimaga winning in the poll though...

Nice to see this up and going though. I don't really think I'll be able to help, but I'll be sure to recommend it to some of my friends.
I currently don't do much, but I am a developer for a game you should totally try out called AssaultCube Reloaded download here https://assaultcuber.codeplex.com/

Well, the channel header makes it sound like it is only going to have game reviews, which I think would be a bad idea.
I think that it would greatly increase its popularity if there was anything calculator on it, not just games, such as good tutorials (if you search YouTube, you get a lot of people that aren’t very good telling you about your calculator)
Maybe change it from “Omnimaga Calculator Game Reviews” to something like “Omnimaga Calculator Games, Tutorials and Reviews” or something
Anyway, good job. I’d love to make 100 tutorials starting with the student software and going to the gba emulator and further, but I probably won’t have the time.
This was also the first channel that I ever subscribed to.

Question for everyone: Should I use WabbitEmu to record the videos or should I just record my calculator?

Subscribing.
I can't say it looks nice since it's empty. :D

I second this.
Recording the calc is better, but I think it doesn't work while running native code. <_<

For a game showcase I would probably film the calculator, if you have a decent enough camera, because that makes it feel more real. For a tutorial, I would start off with a video of the calculator with the game/program on it, and then use the computer emulator so that it is easier to film and moreover you are able to easily show where to download it from and how to send it to your calculator.

If you guys need an intro/outro I'm sure I can whip up a quick one in After Effects.

I feel that filming the calculator detracts from the actual program, as it's usually really shaky and the screen isn't visible due to glare or whatnot. It's really up to the developer, at any rate.

I have a $100 camera, which is better than an ipod or iphone camera, a $15 camera stand, and two pieces of white cardboard, as well as some tape, and it never moves and films nicely.
Of course that doesn’t mean go out and buy that, but if you have those at home, you can film well enough videos of you calculator.

Unfortunately, not everyone has those setups. It's certainly easy enough to set up a rudimentary tripod, but that doesn't mean everyone wil take the time to do so. It'd be nice to have some sort of "quality filtering" by mods before videos get posted; that way we can maintain a professional public image.

Additionally, I could do a series where I speedrun games :D I know a technique that allows you to do it pretty easily in wabbit, and it could be pretty cool to watch, especially games that involve physics and such.  It could be half tutorial half speedrun!

Also, I am in favor of using Wabbit for all of our screenshot needs.  I think it would look a ton more professional than just recording our calculators, plus it would allow more people on omni to get out quality video, not just the ones with cameras.

Well, we could always delete the videos that were not professional enough.
And we let people “work” together; if one of you needed a video of a calculator, so long as the request wasn’t too specific, I could do that.

Builderboy, would you like the password?

Leafy, an intro would be great, although I couldn't really give you too much specifications on it.

Do you think it might be a good idea to put other people’s intros (if they have one) into the videos too.
That way if this got relatively popular the viewers would know whose video they were watching, and the maker would get credit too.

Oh, I also thought of something that would be cool, but lame; maybe a video of which one of us can complete blockdude in the shortest time.
