Nope, unless someone knows PHP and can make a SMF mod that fixes it. :P

But seriously, Internet Explorer is terrible, especially 6 and 7. None of the versions are fully compliant with web standards. Some sites even blocks IE users to force them to switch. :P

I personally don't understand why some people absolutely want to stick to IE when you can customize Opera or Firefox to look similar to IE (if you only use IE for the look), unless your parents refuse to let you install a better browser.

IE is the nightmare of webdesigners like me, you have to create two CSS files, one that's compatible with IE and one for all the others.

IE just... it just sucks

Yes, it's a huge nightmare for web designers. You have no idea how hard it is to keep a site web compliant but still show up fine in IE. It sucks that our source code, even PHP stuff, has to include code for good browsers and an additional piece of code just for IE. That said, IE is better than it used to be, though. I heard IE9 isn't too bad.

Yes the standards on IE 7 and even 8 are just terrible.
IE 6? Forget it! No tabs? The nightmare browser

As for DJ your question, it's microsoft. Terrible. Ever since IE started owning the market over the previous superbrowser, Netscape (which was interestingly run by Mozilla) in the 1990. Microsoft has taken great lengths to ensure it's browser dominated. So they started introducing it into their OS so that it would ship with it. and the real reason for people to choose it is not because they choose to stick to it, it's that many have never even heard of firefox or chrome or opera and just 'are happy with the default programs that microsoft provides with windows'. But things are changing, and with IE coming down to less than 50% of the market share, someday MIcrosoft will go DOWN!!!

Anyway i like this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browser_wars

for another reason why IE 8 sucks: go to acid3.acidtests.org
try it first with chrome or any other non-ie browser and then try Interent explorer 8. you'll be laughing. imagine ie6's score.

As for IE 9 well i will have to change sympathies a bit because it is much better. but i also see it as a catchup to the other browsers rather than leading the pack

thhis page will also have you laughing. it has so many lies that you can easily see thorugh, microsoft is desperately trying to save its precious browser
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/compare/default.aspx

also here in the public library i am forced to use the horror ie7 and on the profile page where you can edit your sig it keeps jumping down and shaking. also on ie 7 you cannot even drag in the bottom right corner to make the editing box bigger!

Back then IE was not too bad in general because Netscape barely supported web standards, but then M$ stopped updating IE for over 6 years and IE6 really got outdated when Mozilla got popular.

As for IE9 I heard it gets a much higher score in the Acid3 test, but it still loads pages much slower than FF and Opera. It also takes more ressources, from what I heard. On my older Celeron, IE8 almost froze while loading, so imagine IE9 x.x

I am saddened that some schools and libraries still use IE6...

The worst part is that some companies over here got their websites designed in a way that only show up fine in IE6...

Just backup before doing so, though. Although TC01 said he had no problem with IE9 beta, I heard that one person had a crash that was so bad he had to reformat his harddrive. It's still a beta, and if Microsoft products are already buggy in their final form, imagine a beta.

That's why I use FF portable and chrome portable. Not only do you have great browsers constantly with you, but you have all your bookmarks and settings as well. :P

Me and my friends' site doesn't show up correctly with IE. So we put up a warning and links to FF and Chrome. :P

Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...

I see. In my case, Omni says Best viewed in Opera, FF, Chrome and Safari with 1024x768 or higher. It doesn't show perfectly in all, because of soem buggy mods such as the Spoiler tags, but at least it works pretty well. When I made my first site, It only showed fine in IE6 X.x

things have changed since the dominance of ie6 an acceptable browser when it was released, but towards the end of the life cycle a horror browser.
ie9 is microsoft's attempt to catch up with the rest. it has lots of improvements and scores 95% on the acid3 test, but is still behind in some areas.

I'm personally curious where Opera will stand among browsers once IE9 comes out, though. I wonder if it will fall far behind. It doesn't even support some curved DIV borders CSS.

Firefox has been dominant in increasing market share over the past few years, and chrome's is going up even faster than firefox. safari and opera are stable.

Oh, no I meant in terms of webpage rendering. I sometimes worry Opera will fall behind, since it doesn't even support everything yet and IE seems to slowly catch up.

oh sorry i knew what u were saying, i was just veering off onto another topic
and yes opera is falling behind in some aspects of webpage rendering, however there are some things that only ie can do (not even ff) and when i have to do it, i am forced to open up that browser

Since I am on an old laptop, after a few hours chrome and FF will crash. IE will last for about another hour so I'm forced to use it sometimes.
