Skin's smooth scrolling
«
on:

I just noticed this on Linux.
The v3 skin has very bad smooth scrolling in Ubuntu with GNOME as GUI and Firefox as browser.
The v5 is acceptable but can be tiring.
But v4 is very snappy and has perfect scrolling.
So using the skin version 4 solves the problem. I hope this helps someone.
I didn't notice this on Windows XP or 7. I will check out in my laptop...
And some feed about how good the omnimaga forum is scrolling in you is appreciated to know if it is Firefox in Linux fault or the skin.
To DJ Omnimaga and Eeems that can administrate the forum_ I don't know if you could help this but since using v4 solves the problem I think that you don't ought to optimize the other skins. Also I need to research a bit to pinpoint the cause.

well the reason behind this is on themes v5 and v3 there is a static not moving background that remains as is
on v4 the bg moves like the rest of the forum when you scroll so it probally has to do with that
(i just flipped to v4 and crap its so bright X.x)

yeah it's cuz of the non-moving background. It's to be expected on some systems. I myself had no trouble on my old computer, though. My guess is that your softwares probably have trouble rendering such stuff
.
I personally want to leave it as it is, though, because on the v5 skin, a scrolling bg would look terrible and break the page layout IMHO. As for v3, it's cuz it also uses images in divs and cells, so it's quite CPU intensive. Later maybe I'll try doing an alternate v5 skin with a scrolling bg, though, but idk how nice it will look. I will most likely have to set it to not repeat vertically, so the entire bottom parts will be plain blue. I'm not gonna modify the main v5 skin, though, since I kinda like its effects
the issue is generally poor computer/video card performances. On the old board, we always had a v3 style skin and I had choppy scrolling in every browser. It was far less bad than Myspace backgrounds and Youtube channels, though. However, v5 scrolls perfectly fine on my old PC. My guess is that Linux or the stuff you use under it just have shitty rendering engines for that web stuff or they don't support your video card well

Linux, GNOME or Firefox in Linux don't like the static.
Windows XP with Firefox has slower scrolling in v3 and v5 relative to v4 but the difference is not as bad as in Linux.
The computers I tested are different... But relative background is super fast in Linux (even with a older computer). Maybe a bit too fast but I am fast too. ^^
Thanks! And I hope this help other users.

Well as I said in other threads I cannot really please everyone, but I will try offering a fixed bg skin eventually for these people. I may only do it for 2010, though, because with four skins, it will alerady take a while to install mods and edit the board navbar for example, as I will need to update four files one by one most of the time.
EDIT: A 4th theme was added to the list. Unfortunately there are no ways to sort them, so it will appear last, as "v5 Lite (no fixed bg)". Exact same theme, just without fixed bg

Repeating the background could make the skin look better when it is fixed.

I think youre too demanding, now...
At least appreciate the work I put into the skin alerady. Plus repeating it vertically when fixed will look terrible on large resolutions, even more when not fixed. There will be a big black bar every few scrolling

I am grateful.
Just, if it can look good when fixed would be totally nice. I just though if you edited the skin's CSS, it would only require change a line for repeating the image. I guess I was wrong.
Anyway the important is done, I realized a not so bright fixed skin comes really handy for Linux users (geekboy is right about being so bright when you switch xD) and maybe for slow computers.

Well, I made it purposely so the image won't repeat, because I felt it looked ugly (I tried it) when repeated
On a positive note, though, I finally figured out a way to make the attachment upload form show up by default in the reply/edit pages. It used to be an "additional options" link there, that people had to click, and caused them to easily miss the upload form and always ask the same question over and over ("how do I upload images on the forum?"). Now when you click reply or modify, it will show up right below the post form by itself, like on UTI forums.
