Unnecessary IRC channels?
« on: December 29, 2015, 06:02:56 pm »
The topic pretty much says it and I wanted to know what others thought. It seems we have a lot of unused/unnecessary IRC channels.  As far as I know,#fr and #nl get no activity. I'd imagine #radio #games, and #anime are the same. I can see keeping #thebot for bot testing and #spam if the main channel gets too spammy and people need to go there. #irp I don't know about, I've never been in there. :P What do you guys think? Should we drop some of these channels? Do you use any of them? Would you miss them if they were gone? Please discuss.

I wouldn't mind dropping some, all that are used are #omni and #spam, occasionally #thebot and #irp. The latter two are unofficial ones anyways ^.^

I think dropping the channels would be a good idea. It just splits up an already less active channel.

I'd say the moderators subforum would be a better place for this topic.

#anime does get activity sometimes so I'd be against dropping that. #nl is already dropped from the official list, if it hasn't been removed from OIRC yet then it should. I'm hesitant to drop #fr for historical reasons.

#irp is my channel, no touchy.

I don't use #FR and #NL, and even if some French/Netherlandish person says hi in there, it's not like it will ever get answered :P #Radio #Games and #Anime never have descutions either :P #Irp is Eeems' but it's not like it gets any activity either. Maybe someone should write an IRP bot (poke poke @Digital ) :P
If the activity-less channals are removed from OIRC (but not necessary dropped) then maybe @Sorunome could add non-omni channels like #cemetech , #ti and others ;)

I don't think adding other sites channels would make much sense.

Well, #TI on efnet isnt realy belonging to any site, its just #TI
Futuring other sites'es channels would be good for cross promotion :P

#irp does have activity, it's just irregular. #cemetech already has sax in it, I doubt they'd want to try to integrate OIRC into their stuff as well.

@c4ooo Thanks for mentioning because of bots :D
IRP is fun but it is difficult to write an interpreter for a language which doesn't have a defined syntax. also a major part of IRP is that it is executed by a human/programmer-ing being who understands humor imo.
However I'll think of it and I'll probably make an extension :P

#omnimaga, #spam and #thebot are frequently used atm, we can't drop our dictator's channel so #irp stays :P
Empty channels should be dropped automatically. I don't now about #games and #anime, but there are some other channel i which I wish to be more active and not dropped (like all of omnimaga :P)
I'm sorry if i might make some mistakes, I'm German so English isn't my first language. Please correct me :)

#anime should stay, imo, since I am one of the few who occasionally uses it.

Yea but who do you talk to? :P
And as ive said before it might be wise to not neccesserly drop some channels, but rather make them simply unreachable from the OmnomIRC client ;)

It is also possible to have channels relayed between omninet and efnet without having them appear in the webbrowser.....or vice versa....or only relay between omnomirc and omninet or something, the possibilities are endless! :D

How would that be any better? That means if it does get active on IRC, OIRC users wont be able to get at it. It's not like having the channels there makes OIRC any slower or faster for the user.
