Using common sense when Inviting IRL people on Omnimaga
« on: December 25, 2010, 06:27:51 pm »
Hi,

Sometimes, forum members invite people they know in real life or from another site on the forums. However, I would like to ask two things: Please use common sense when doing so. In most cases, this brought us troublemakers because the person inviting the other did not be careful about what kind of person they invite. Two examples are most members from #mionet, tha guy with the nickname Freezway and all of Netham45 online friends, most notoriously Ginger/Flacknack. (No offense to Miotatsu, Deep Thought and Netham45).

If you feel that a member in particular has a behavior that is not something that goes within our policies, it might be best to avoid inviting that person here. Also remember that certain people acts differently in real life than on the Internet.

EDIT: Er... I accidentally in the wrong forum, could someone move this topic up one level?

Ok thanks. Yeah I was mostly saying because when people did, they basically brought 4chan on the site. One guy Netham45 invited even flooded my other forum TIMGUL once.

I mean, he liked it, but he 'doesn't have time for forums'. He's a great programmer, but he doesn't do what I call 'web socializing', so his stuff is not very popular. Too bad for him :(

I've only invited one friend, while he is spammish, he is a great guy and doesn't like when people are rude to each other, unfortunately he has no interest in calc's and isn't on IRC often (too busy playing minecraft :P)

that said, don't stop inviting people, or we wouldn't have things like Ncaster and Nspire Raytracer.  (since Builderboy (I think) invited bwang)

EDIT:  btw, should this be in News?

I wouldn't invite anyone simply because I don't link my real life and this account much.

Ah I see now. I notice a lot of people on ticalc.org does Axe, for example, but they never post on any calc boards. Some people are less interested in forums/chats or simply don't have time.

Yunhua98 I don't think so. I guess we could post it there if in the future this became a major problem.

Does that includes calculator programmers? You could maybe not tell them you post there much if that's the case or ask them to not reveal your personal info on the site (if that happens there's always the report button, anyway). I'm personally not paranoid about revealing some stuff online, but I would not like if someone posted my phone number/home address in public.

I don't really know of any calc programers. I know the one who told me about programming, but he wouldn't care about TI programming anymore.

I tried to invite someone once, he have a TI-83+ since nearly as long as DJ, but he wasn't really interested in advanced calc programming and going on forums... (Advanced as in more than yet another quadratic solver or something like that :P)

Remember the day the walrus started to fly...

I finally cleared my sig after 4 years you're happy now?

Ah ok I see.

For odd reasons, i notice that a bunch of Omni members learned calc programming from another person or got interested after another person showed them, yet the other person is always the one that loses interest first. O.O
