I blame hosting service full of actual viruses. (Remember that one everyone used, but it was full of viruses, then ultimately died? I forgot the name.)

I don't remember exactly. Wasn't it someone's private hosting though, not a company? This time it seems like an actual hosting company.

It would be nice if the sig was temporarily removed so Omni doesn't get flagged as malicious site once again in Chrome x.x

I think it was Lemmy's. And yeah we'll look at this.

What I would suggest is just replacing img tags with url for now, since it comes from x10hosting. If it doesn't get fixed, then just remove the link later I guess. And yeah it was Themuncher.net or something.

I don't see any external links on that page, and his avatar (and signature image) is hosted on imgur ???

It was fixed by SHmibs if I remember. THe signature contained an image hosted on an infected hosting provider, which is what gave the virus warnings.

Also apparently this started happening again according to Runer112 on almost every Omni page. Check the IRC logs from 9:50 AM GMT-5 for the URL

If he could PM me the information on where the it is coming from (IE: sig, avatar etc) then I could fix it when I get home tonight.

EDIT thanks juju:

<    Runer112> | why is avast telling me that a resource on like  every omnimaga page is malicious
<    Runer112> | from m.addthisedge.com

(I assume it's another avatar or sig)

Maybe it's time to disable the [img] tag and offsite avatars linking entirely? D:  (jk)

I'll add it to my todo list and find the culprit.

Seeing as this happens more often nowadays (probably Avast getting too sensitive about off-site linked images in more recent versions), in the very worst case scenario, I wonder if at one point Omni could be forced to limit [img] so that it only works with trusted hosting sites, such as Removedfromgame, Tinypic, Imageshack and the various calc sites, same with avatars, or would that require heavy modification of the code?

I'm not entirely sure how hard that would be to add. I'd have to google it.

It would be fairly simple to modify the code that parses the BBcodes to add a whitelist for img tags.

Edit: Also, X10host is a free no-ad hosting provider, so it's not going to attract the best people, it's more than reasonable they've got viruses.

Yeah. Also I don't like X10 because everytime CoolioJazz linked me there to download his songs it often failed to respond. Their uptime sucks, although it's nowhere as bad as Heliohost.

What is addthisedge.com?

By the way I have the same problem with Rhombicuboctahedron's avatar now >.<

Would there be a way to restrict avatar hotlinking to only a few sites, like RFG, Tinypic, Imageshack, Photobucket, etc if that start happening too often?

There's no way with the native SMF site to restrict the URL of image avatars. As far as I can tell, the best we could do is to disable avatars on low-post-count members.
