Actually... No, it is fast enough that I idle the CPU for 20ms between each frame. I was just not moving the Avatar very fast.

Very, very impressive Ranman! Not only will it be a full-fledged world on the 68k's, but it's also very cleanly presented (the menus and the like). I can't wait for this POTY to come out

I too am an Ultima fan and recognize this is one huge project. I've finished U3, U7 and those 2 Runes of Virtue action rpg's. I started but never finished U4 or U8.
Curious, are you planning to release the source code for porting to other systems. I know of 2 other Ultima projects, like U3 and U4 (in basic) that have.

Ultima IV as well as Ultima V are pretty hard RPGs for their time. I think what makes them so hard (and great) is the fact that they are non-linear. When you first start out, you feel almost lost -- as if you are wandering around aimlessly. As you transact with the NPCs of the world, you slowly begin to realize the task that has been set before you.
As for releasing the source code, I am sure that I will. But it will not be released immediately with the executable. I have got a lot of cleaning up to do. I currently have about 25000 lines of code stretched across 60 files.
Currently, Ultima V for TI calcs is tied fairly closely with the hardware of the 68K calcs such as graphical limitations, file size limitations, and memory limitations. But, with some tweaks, it could be made to be more portable. It would be nice to see it on more platforms. The same goes for Ultima: Dark Runes.
Thanks to everyone for their positive comments!

'Tis good news indeed.
I always release my source code with a couple exceptions that I thought they weren't ready for primetime viewing. I actually regret not even those after my 'Great Hard Drive Crash of 05' where the code went on to heaven.
Another question.
How large are you expecting the final program to be?
Proof that you can make a map of Sosaria in 128x128.

wow thats a nice map maybe he could make it scrollable on the TI-89 since the screen height is 100 px and add it in the game?

Hey... I like that map! Very nice! B)
Ultima V has something similar. It has a command to "View" a gem. When you view a gem, you see a zoomed out view of the world map. However, you do not see the entire map. I see that you are using 1 pixel per tile. I am using a 4x4 pixel tile to represent each tile -- you can see this in one of the screenshots.
The world map in Ultima V is 256x256 tiles (64Kb of map data). There is also an underworld that is 256x256 tiles. No sun or moon in the underworld so it is complete darkness -- you better have a lot of torches or magic light spells.
Ultima V for TI calcs is expected to require about 220Kb of Flash memory for game storage. You will need 150Kb of free RAM to play the game. Not too bad considering the original game was 8 floppy disks totaling about 1.2 Megabytes. The good thing... no more swapping floppy disks.
How about Ultima: Dark Runes? How big will it be?

Aww, yes that would fit on a Cybiko. Cybiko does have builtin LZS compression so it could be less. Remarkable.
Ultima DR will be under 64k. It is like I've said minimalized. I wanted a game worthy of an Ultima yet small. It also picks up om a few elements of the Runes of Virtue games but nothing as extreme as eliminating stats for a HP and Mana bar. I didn't like that about the ROV games.
A beligerant British ?

Built in LZS compression... That is cool!
On the TI-89 and 92 calcs, I use LZS (or is it LZW) compression extensively. Otherwise, Ultima V would require about 700Kb. o.o
However, it is not built in. The compression routines are included in a few programmer tools & libraries -- TTTools and Extgraph.
Nice screenshot! Are you going to use monochrome or grayscale on the Cybiko?
