I don't have an exact count... I guess it depends on what your definition of a secret place is. There are quite a few towns that are hidden by mountains, trees, water, or just simply off the beaten path.

- There are 2 world maps. Each map is 256x256 tiles.
- There are 32 towns. Each town map is 32x32 tiles and may have up to 5 levels.
- There are 8 dungeons. Each dungeon has 8 levels.
- There are 9 shrines (including the shrine of the Codex).

Sleeping is a good way to heal your party. In Ultima V there are many ways to sleep.


- Use the 'Holeup' command on a world map to set up a camp. This is a free method to heal your party but involves some risk. You will be susceptible to attack by roaming enemies. You have the option to select a player to stand watch. So, if you are attacked, the player standing watch can wake the sleeping party members. If you choose not to set a watch and you are attacked, then your party may or may not wake up during the attack.

- Use the 'Holeup' command in a town while your party is lying in a vacant bed. This is a free method to heal your party; but watch out... if the owner of bed decides to go to sleep, you will be thrown out of bed. However, you will not be attacked.

- Use the 'Holeup' command while on a frigate. This is a free method to heal your party and make repairs to your ship. Again... you are susceptible to attack by roaming sea creatures. (not implemented yet)

- You may also elect to purchase a room for the night at the local Inn. It will cost a few bits of gold; but you will have a comfortable night's rest without fear of attack or getting thrown out of bed.


As I have said before... Sleeping is critical to winning Ultima V. "How is that?" you might ask... That is for you to find out.    :ninja:ninja.gif

That is one of the biggest reasons I decided to remake this game -- the level of interaction was way ahead of its time. It was truely a ground breaking game; the level of detail is astounding. :)smile.gif

I hope people that try this game will experience the same feeling I did nearly 20 years ago. I couldn't wait to get home from school to immerse myself in the worlds of Ultima.

I have been working on Ultima V off & on for just over 3 years now.  o.oblink.gif

wow 3 years, I remember you said you worked on it for a year when you first joined Omnimaga. I didn't realised it has been that long alerady O_Oshocked2.gif

I think the only game so far that was way ahead of its time in term of interaction is Star Ocean 1 for the Super Famicom (Super Nintendo in Japan), because it had more features than some Playstation games. Too bad it was never released in North America. Still, I think Ultima V level of intereaction is still higher than Star Ocean when I hear your talk about Ultima :)smile.gif
