Nspire Screen rotated 180 degrees
« on: August 19, 2013, 09:03:19 am »
A student has turned in a CX Nspire CAS with a screen that has been rotated 180 degrees.  Everything works great, but it is upside down.  I have called TI-Cares and they have no clue what happened.

I am sure it is a combination of key strokes.  Can anyone help?

First, try to remove the battery and put it back on again. More troubleshooting details here: https://epsstore.ti.com/OA_HTML/csksxvm.jsp?nSetNumber=11900

That's weird! If the above doesn't work, if i were you i would ask for a replacement unit for it can well be a hardware defect. Good luck.

BTW, Welcome to Omnimaga!

Hi,
What is the OS version ?

If it is 3.1 it can be explained.

Well this is an interesting problem, could they have put the screen in wrongly? You should try the things that SpiroH linked to; reset, unplug and replug the battery and in the worst case enter the maintenance menu and do a complete format.

If it is 3.1 it can be explained.
How come so?

I only said it can, using Ndless and a conf-lose program put in /ndless/startup/ that patches the screen routines.

Ah with ndless. I thought there was a possible bug in the 3.1 OS that could cause this kind of behaviour.

Does this happen only within the OS, or at boot time too while the Nspire logo is displayed?

You all are wonderful!  I unplugged the battery and everything is fine now.  I know I had unplugged the battery before and it went right back to the 180 rotation, but as of right now it is working!!!

Well, I take that back.  I had it  up and running and then let it sit for a while to turn off.  I just turned it back on and now everything is rotated again.  I hit reset on the back and sure enough - even the startup screen runs upside down.

That wouldn't make sense if the (entire?) startup screen is rotated. Maybe there is something with the display controller, although I don't see a direct way to instruct the controller to rotate the display.

Is it possible to provide a picture of the device, and the OS version + the boot 1 and 2 versions?
You can find the OS version in [Settings -> Status] and the boot 1 / 2 versions in [Settings -> Status -> About].

Have you ever used Nover? I wonder if some bad values could have caused that?

Well, let the craziness continue.  I went to take a picture and it was right side up again.  I will let it sit for some time and hope to catch a picture of what is happening.....

OS version is 3.2.3.1233
Boot 1 - 3.0.0.99
Boot 2 - 3.1.0.16
